OT: Ichiro to the Yankees

Post#1 » by ThaFlash » Mon Jul 23, 2012 10:12 pm

From Mlbtraderumors.com, this came out of the blue lol

The Yankees have acquired Ichiro Suzuki and cash considerations from the Mariners in exchange right-handers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network (on Twitter).

Sad that his play has fallen so far that all it takes is that to get him.

Yankees get older. The Detroit trade has more of an impact on the Jays, they are the favorites for the wildcard now.

Yea but I guess the Mariners did not want to have to bring him back after this year

Ichiro must have asked for a trade to the Yankees :x I don't see how ownership would okay this move for so little even though he's struggled this year! He's been by far the most popular player on that franchise.

Detroit is leading their division now and I think they will take it this year and for a couple years to come. I think the White Sox will fall off

From Ken Rosenthal: Source: #Yankees get significant cash from #Mariners in Ichiro trade.

This just keeps getting better for the Yankees... wtf is wrong with Seattle, this is what they get for their franchise player?

I think they did this as a favor for Ichiro, who probably only wanted to play for NYY. I am guessing he'll reup in SEA this winter.

Seattle is playing New York today too. Would be cool if he played today.

I am surprised that AA didn't make a trade for Ichiro. I believe the Yankees are only covering $2M.

I thought it made sense for SEA to move him to dump his salary, but they're dumping the cornerstone of the last decade for 2.25m? I don't get trading him for 2 million bucks.

And for NYY, there's zero downside. He just might be totally reinvigorated to have something to play for, HoF calibre vets to play with, and being in the centre of the baseball universe. I wouldn't count on it, but if Gardner's out, this is a pretty cheap replacement with fairly monstrous upside, which is a funny thing to say about acquiring a guy who's like 50 years old.

Dropped Ichiro on my fantasy team a month ago, picked him back up. Will he platoon with Jones or play everyday ?

Detroit might live up to preseason expectations and win their division. In fact, they are in 1st right now

Quite sad. I was hoping Ichiro could play out his full career as a Mariner and retire as one.

I hope he doesn't regain his form in his new setting. Would hate to see the Yankees become even stronger. :nonono:

It disgusts me to see Ichiro in a Yankees uniform... could have never imagined it. Sad day today lol. And as a Devils fan its rough to see the Rags get Rick Nash for next to nothing!

No lose situation for the Yankees. At the very least they have Brett Gardner like defense and speed in LF.
Pretty neat and on the fridge for the real fans:
