Jazz sign Foye
Jazz have signed Randy Foye. I like him as a bench (3rd guard) but I thought that was Burks job this year. Either a bizarre signing or some big trade in the works.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

We're probably targeting CP3...
and then Billups and Bledsoe.
But seriously, KOC's cooking something up. It seems logical to say another one of our PGs might be on the move. I personally like Watson, because of his swagger and his commitment to the team. And Tinsley because he's a good mentor to the young kids, especially Kanter. Would be sad to see them go.

Yes too many PGs but no one wants Watson or Tinsley. Signing makes no sense for the Jazz or even Foye himself.

OMG I just had a terrible thought....Foye not going to be our starting SG with Hayward going to the bench. If that happens, I will personally take our Corbins knee ice skater style.

Foye = a poor mans Jason Terry Foye = Mo Williams Foye = Jimmers best case scenario
Jazz (counting Burks and Hayward) now have 6 players that can play PG. I like Foye but makes no sense.

Foye is definitely an SG, not a PG. The Jazz had one more slot to fill and Foye seems as good an option as anyone not named Andre or Carlos. He'll essentially fill the role that Howard was supposed to last year.

Depth and competition for playing time. I like it. Let all these guys push each other. The young guys have to step up and earn it. I still expect something to happen around Raja--which results on him not being on the roster (buy out or trade). So that makes 13 under contract (14 including Raja). CJ, Howard, and Ahern are goners.

Wasn't Raja already bought out?

Re: Jazz sign Foye
maybe Carroll gone? Seemed like the Jazz promised him a spot but he did have a bad summer league. The Jazz actually never officially picked up Carroll. That would be cut throat. I thought Murphy looked ok in Summer league. I would think he would have a one year rookie deal. Watson the team leader (even showed up at summer league game) not going to be happy if Foye gets some of his minutes.
I like Foye a lot and even prefer him over Mo Williams as a PG even though neither is truly a PG but now we have a log jam with the bigs and the guards. ANother vfeteran allowing Corbin to bury Burks on the bench. I hope a bigger trade is in the works!

Raja has not been bought out yet but was given permission to talk to other teams to see if anyone wants him as a free agent.

Bleh. I don't like Foye. We don't need vet chuckers who aren't good at anything on the team. Haven't we learned that yet? Just taking away time from Burks and Hayward. Hate it.

I don't like it if they are gonna give him Burks's minutes. If they intend to have him as Mo's backup sharing ball handling duties with Hayward then I'm good with it.

I totally agree and I a fan of Foye. Foye should start with MO off the bench but wont happen. I read Jazz may be able to trade away Tinsley's cheap contract for a future 2nd making watson the 3rd PG. This would be best case scenario BUT Watson would not accept this as he is the team leader.

Re: Jazz sign Foye
Can Foye play point or is he just restricted to the 2
If he takes major minutes away from Burks that sucks monkey balls.

Re: Jazz sign Foye
I suppose I like this move if Foye's going to be spending the vast majority of his time at point guard (I know he's not a true point guard, but he's easily a better player than Watson or Tinsley and Burks and Hayward could both help with point guard duties), but not if he's going to be taking more than scattered minutes at the two. I feel like this will be somewhat of a wasted season if Burks isn't getting at least 20-25 minutes a night, which was already going to be tough with Hayward and Marvin Williams on the wings.
I like that we're shoring up our outside shooting, but not if it's going to come at the expense of developing Burks or any of our other young players. Shoring up a middling team's short term weaknesses absolutely should not come before developing players who have the potential to be stars in the future.

Re: Jazz sign Foye
I like these additions - former lottery picks who just haven't been in the right situation. Foye is talented enough to challenge Mo for the starting spot (from what little I've seen of the two recently) and he can put up points in a hurry. I wouldn't be surprised if this means Watson is moved....
But, as of now I think our wing rotation will look something like this:
Williams 32/Foye 12/Tinsley 4
Hayward 15/Burks 24/Foye 9
Williams 32/Hayward 16
There are enough minutes to go to the players that earn them.

Re: Jazz sign Foye
What I like best about the Jazz singing Foye--no Jimmer! Sweet.
The worst news about Foye is he only has a 1 year deal for around $5 mil so if he excels, the Jazz won't be able to resign him. If he doesn't play well, they won't want to resign him. Looks like a one and done to me.
Update: I read the $2.5 mill contract talk. If that's true that's a huge salary cut. Again, if it's true it gives the Jazz more room to resign him longer term if he works out. It's surprising that Foye couldn't find a deal in his current $4.5 to $5 mil range. That causes me some concern. Given his numbers he wasn't over paid by league standards.

Sltrib blog says we only paid $2.5M for one year. He probably wouldn't sign for more. Good pick up, but I could have done without it if it means less minutes for Burks.
