I don't think that both Smith or Christmas are a lock to make the team. I think Smith was signed for camp and likely so they can send him to Maine. With Bradley out I wouldn't be surprised if we don't bring in some other camp bodies.

Vet minimum for a guy on whom we have Early Bird Rights?

Sweet.

A year from now he could get a nice bonus in some kind of trade situation, due to Bird Rights. (Although frankly it would be hard to imagine him going above the Early Bird number in any scenario.)

Makes a lot of sense. Rarely, if ever, has a roster been totally decided this early. But if this was it, we can expect Bradley out for the opening with Melo and Joseph going to the D League waiting for injuries

If/when injuries happen, this will look like a very good signing. Can't discount the value of veterans who know how to play the game (even if they don't play it as well as their younger, more athletic counterparts) when you're trying to win meaningful basketball games. Hence, why the Collins signing was also very solid.

ugh! I cant stand to watch this guy running around wailling his arms like hes lost out there, and hes got one of the worst jump shots iv'e ever seen. but i will give him credit he does play hard and hustles on defense, and if hes as good a locker room guy as they say, then i guess i can just close my eyes when he shoots the ball.

I think the rotation will be a bit different now.

I also think that Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox will not have their minutes pushed this year,
even though Doc would play everyone 48 minutes if he could,
the medical staff may have instructed an assistant coach to yank these guys after
so many minutes regardless what Doc has in mind.

Center: KG/ Jason Collins / Fab Melo

PF: Bass / Wilcox / Sullinger (Orlando All-star may struggle against NBA size/quickness)

SF: Pierce / Green / Kris Joseph

SG: Courtney Lee / Jason Terry / Jamal Smith / Avery Bradley (injured)

PG: Rajon Rondo / Jason Terry / Keyon Dooling

That's 15. Dionte Christmas doesn't make the cut. Either he wanted too much guaranteed money or
the Celtics didn't think he fit a need as well as the above 15 players.

Christmans was an All-Around good Summer Leaguer whose quickness is an issue at the SG spot.

He already signed his contract so I don't understand the "too much guaranteed money" garbage. His contract is partially guaranteed which gives us less reason to cut him. He does just about every thing you could want a guard to do as well. He shoots the three well, which definitely translates from summer league to the NBA. He also rebounds, plays D and can handle the ball. I don't understand why you think quickness is an issue.

The wrap on Christmas is that he can't handle the ball and he is just spot up shooter, but a good one, who can't create and doesn't really have the athleticism or size to be a SF. Now that makes a you a lousy draft prospect but if you can combine 3 pt shooting with solid defense at the pro level then those other issues become far less important as a role player in the NBA.

As I already said Jamar Smith is a former Maine Red Claw, if he is going to play in the NBADL and he is one of the last two cuts made by the C's they can assign him to Maine. Needless to say Boston can still add two more guys before this is even an issue.

Wait a moment. What's this about being able to keep some control over a guy who doesn't make your roster of 15? Could you please explain in more detail? Thanks!

Actually, I recommend splitting it out as a separate post. :)

Really doubt KG would put up with that kind of garbage.

He's worth bringing back just for his ability to speak fluent Rondo.

Hahahaha....u reminded me of the KG-Cassell clip from a few years ago re:guys who r hard to understand.

I'd keep Joseph around but why do we need Christmas? Dude's skillset is duplicated by Terry, Bradley, Lee and of course Rondo. I'd much rather have a guy like Pietrus who can guard the 2 and 3, loves Boston and is a great locker room presence than a guy like Christmas. E'Twaun Moore is a better basketball player than Christmas and he NEVER played here. Christmas won't either. Obviously you have to get him to agree to come in here without a guarantee of much playing time but still...if the choice is there, go Air France all day.

Believe me, he would be much more useful in a jersey.

I think a strong wing defender like Pietrus is more important than carrying 6 guards so I would opt for Pietrus over dionte christmas or jamar smith if it comes to that. I've wanted Dooling and Pietrus back all along so I have no problem with dooling coming back if this is true especially since we really only have one true point guard on the team.

1. Pietrus would require using our BAE. I'm not sure I want to use the BAE on a guy who will be 5th on our depth chart at guard. That limits our flexibility at the deadline, when we might really need someone.

2. Pietrus may not WANT to come back. He knows he's not getting serious mins unless there are a lot of injuries. It's not really a good situation for him.

3. Christmas can I think give us what we need out of a 3rd string SG. He's similar to Pietrus in that he's an aggressive defender and a good shooter from deep. He is less athletic but given that Pietrus is coming off knee surgery maybe not. We also have Joseph who can potentially defend SFs.

I want Peaches and Dooling back for vet min. If this can happen we should do it and cut rookies as needed. If we can't then we can go with the rookies. We can give Dooling a little more cause he's an early bird. But do not use the BAE on Peaches
