lol...your GM likes to trade through the media. Everybody and their mama knew what packages have been offered till now for Dwight. no offense but he is still a 30yr old Virgin GM....

Like the 1 insider said on LG he basically walked away from the agreed upon trade with the lakers.

Joined a week after the Lakers acquired Steve Nash, eh?

Crawl on back to the Lakers board and don't fall off the bandwagon.

I was surprised how hurt everyone seemed in the comments on the latest BSPN report from Broussard. It was all Lakers and Nets fans pissed off we hadn't given them Dwight yet saying how we're a terrible organization because of it.

yeah well thats what happens when the biggest fan markets feel like they have a shot at an amazing player and the media hypes it up like hes theirs and then get let down when a trade doesnt happen. henny is picking some solid fan bases to troll and i can only hope the twolves or the raps get involved cause their fans are hilarious

I agree. He was over payed. I hope it was at RDV's direction because this does not inspire confidence in Henny for me. And I have a bad feeling the Magic F/O is going to screw up this Howard trade. I truly hope they DO NOT wait until the trade deadline. Don't want another 3 ring circus again this year...with Howard the clown in the center ring.

I think it's funny that opposing fanbases think our GM is overwhelmed, indecisive and playing the media game. All comments about him from actual reporters/writers so far have said he plays cards close to the chest, doesn't let anything leak, is calm and cool, and is simply waiting for someone to actually offer something that meets his valuation of Dwight. That simple. All the leaks and sources claiming deals are done - prior to nothing actually happening - are coming either from other the teams (maybe) or Dwight's "circle" (much more likely).

Having fans come boo D12 all season long and having the media constantly question them wouldn't be a good look for anyone in this situation. And given that D12 won't sign any extension with anyone, he'll be dealt before training camp, imo. If we thought last year was hell, just imagine what happens this year.

I hope you are right,V. But the wildcard in all of this is DeVos. Is he so delusional that he believes if we keep Howard this year, that this team can get him his championship AND Howard will re-sign at the end of the year? I've been smelling his hand all over this. With Nelsons contract and all this talk about holding onto Howard. In my opinion, that would be the absolute worst thing to do. How much leverage would we have in trading Howard when other teams knew we had a very short window to do it in? And if we trade him at the trade deadline, we will probably have a good enough record to make the playoffs, be without Howard after the trade deadline, and end up with a crappy draft pick. Not to mention the total disruption to the team with Howard still being here and causing problems. I really hope DeVos isn't behind this. But I keep wondering if that is how Henny got his job here. By him telling RDV that he could convince Howard to stay. That is what DeVos wanted to hear.

No disrespect intended, Ark. But this is the logic I have seen a few people espouse. And I just don't get it. Getting something for Howard in my eyes is better then getting NOTHING! Getting nothing for Shaq didn't work out to well. Under no scenario is letting him walk better then getting SOMETHING for him. And we CAN get something good for him. Fair value? No way. But that is because of Howard's stance. But under no circumstances should we let him walk and get nothing.

It's possible that DeVos is pulling strings here. But I still think this notion that the Magic will keep D12 is a leverage tactic. When your lone trading partner becomes the Rockets, and there's no one to play against them in an effort to ante up the offer, then the last leverage tactic is to threaten to keep him. And it's a fair move as well. As much as I don't want another circus next season, I also don't want the Magic to be short changed or to take a bad deal.

The Rockets have potential to offer the house, everything Henny could dream of. He's going to let the Rockets ask themselves "how bad do we want D12?" And I personally think it'd be tough for them to say that "we're not going to trade for D12, the best center in the game, because we refuse to part with D-Mo, Parsons, or a rookie", and I think Hennigan knows this. And if the Rockets bluff, then so be it. Let's see how long they go before they get to training camp before coming back to the table.

I think Hennigan has set the price for Dwight. If a team comes along and offers it, he'll be dealt on the spot. The Rockets have the "potential" to pay that price, but may not necessarily be offering it yet. Hence where the leverage tactic comes in and this could play out until one side budges. And you make all valid points. I just don't see how the Magic could go out there with a guy who wants nothing to do with the franchise playing in front of fans. If they're going to keep him, give us all a reason to believe he'll stay. No doubt I'd like to see him stay, but not if he doesn't want to.

Anybody find it weird that Fegan immediately responded to Rudolph's rumor via the media. Think about all the Dwight rumors that have come on gone these last 7 months and this is the one he decides speak up about.

I honestly can't remember the last time Fegan publicly neutralized a Dwight rumor.

Just something I was thinking about.

dsg2021 wrote:Do people not understand the concept of cap space?

We had no legit cap space, ergo, we could not offer anything above ~3mil to any PG FA's.

There is also a cap floor that is higher than the previous CBA. That means you have to make salaries add up in future years and if you're rebuilding you don't want to dole out anything longer than 1-2 yrs, which ergo, reduces your FA pull to quality players. If we're rebuilding, would you take Jameer on for 2 seasons or total scrubs with more questionable team mentalities for every 1 year increment; not to mention the ensuing total lack of value in trades except as expiring only, Jameer would be quite valuable on his 2/3rd years and not just for some type of expiring (teams with interest in Jameer this summer also included Lal, nyk).

Jameer Nelson is only on 2 years of garantueed money. This is better than I imagined from a strategizer point. I would've given him a lowball type offer like we all wanted but nothing is as easy as that when it comes to true UFA, aka, they can sign anywhere and have the market setting the price, and sometimes the price is not the problem, it's the fact the player can leave altogether and you're stuck with no cap space. Had we given Jameer a lowball contract, I would've been 3-5 years of fully garantueed money as opposed to the just 2 he got now.

Finally, and I think Hennigan didnt even make this a big factor in re-signing but I think a 2 yr contract with a 3rd mostly ungarantueed is nothing to complain about, and instead it's a great signing. Jameer is the captain of this team, has played here his whole career, and has a common expression among many Magic fans, "When Jameer gets going, the whole team is dangerous.." Show some loyalty as fans for god sakes. Hennigan, who's not even an incumbent Magic member, seemed to appreciate this all with Nelson too and would value his contract strategically for his team culture for these 2 seasons of garantueed money.

Excellent post.
I was starting to pull my hair out at all this talk of the non-existant cap room we didn't have to sign free agent PG's who didn't want to be here.

Not to mention you MUST have some veteran leadership on a team that might be filled with rookies in a few weeks.

EXACTLY!

Monta is the definition of an overhyped, volume scorer on mediocre to bad teams. I have ZERO confidence in him being a major cog on a championship team.

I'm not much of a fan of Ellis like most Magic supporters. He won't win a title. Much like Allen Iverson didn't win one.

Please don't offend Iverson by even associating Monta in the same sentence with him.
Monta has 1/2 the talent and none of the heart A.I. did.

I literally have no clue where all this Monta love came from. Did he lead someone's NBA2K team to a title and the lines between fiction and reality were blurred?

That's the only way it could be explained.
