As he looks back on the craziest year he could imagine, Bay Area native Jeremy Lin had no choice but to concede to the truth of hindsight. He did let Linsanity go to his head.

"If I'm being honest, in some ways, yes," Lin told this newspaper in an exclusive interview. "I fought it every day. But I think subconsciously, it had its effect, everyone catering to you. People were saying only good things for so long that when people said negative stuff, it was like, 'Whoa, what's going on?' "

After Lin signed a three-year, $25 million contract with Houston, a lot of negative stuff was said. He's selfish. He's all about the money. His ego is out of control. And, to top it off, many deemed him a basketball fluke who already has maxed out on the court.

Despite it all, Lin is happy. He said he's thankful for his time in New York, the ride of a lifetime. He said he's eager about his future in Houston and the possibilities with his new team.

And he doesn't seem too concerned with repairing his image or proving himself right. He said too much going well to be worried about the negative.

"It's not about who's right or who's wrong. I'm going to respond with love," Lin said. "That's why I'm in this position, to show love and become a better person. I'm trying to focus on the right things. I'm thankful for everything that's happened. The Lord has blessed me so much."

"I will always, always have doubters," Lin said. "But I really want to reach my potential to bring glory to God. That is more motivation than haters and doubters. I want to work just as hard, give just as much, whether or not I have haters."

"It just comes down to knowing who I am as a person," Lin said. "People who know me know I didn't want all this. I didn't ask for this. It was uncomfortable."

Lin said he isn't concerned with matching the production he managed in New York. Certainly, that would be a tough feat. In 25 starts with New York, Lin averaged 18.2 points, 7.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds. Lin said he doesn't have a guarantee he's the starter, nor does he need one. He said what matters to him is the opportunity, and that Houston believes in him.

Kid got a good head on his shoulders. He ain't a saint, but Even if people don't want to respect him as a basketball player, you'd have to respect him as a person after all that he's had to overcome during the craziness of Linsanity and still come out of it intact, sane, level headed and still gracious about it all. I hope more people can take these values into their own lives and quit with the haterade.

"But I plan on getting better." - Jlin

Nuff said. I will miss seeing the 2011-2012 team of Lin,Novak,Fields,Jeffries, Chandler,Shump, even Bill Walker, Jerome Jordan, Josh and remember Balkman?...playing together on the Knicks team, but I wish them all the best & lots of success wherever they play at. Still gonna stick around with the Knicks for Shump, Novak and Chandler tho .....as a lurker...;)

Lin said he expected to -- wanted to -- re-sign with the Knicks. But the Rockets, who reportedly pegged him as a primary target, came after him hard. First, they agreed to a four-year, $28 million offer sheet, paying him about $9 million in each of the final two years. But by the time Lin arrived in Houston to sign the offer sheet, the Rockets -- after reports the Knicks would match -- had

pulled the first offer and changed the deal. The new offer sheet was for three years, with a third-year salary of $14.8 million.

"I didn't go back to them and ask for more money," Lin said. "It wasn't like they gave me the choice to sign one of the two and I chose the one that would hurt the Knicks. I had one contract offer. That was it."

That says it all.

People need to realize, NBA players, including Lin, are often put in extremely tough public position. I am 30 years old, I don't think I can handle the Linsanity success as nearly well as Lin did. If I were Lin, I'd be tempted to celebrate every night, start partying, start getting girls, start screwing around, and start thinking I'm bigger than the world.

They're handling this immense pressure (success/ failure) at such a young age of 20s. If you're in early 20s, they have productions that media spice up for public. Think about handling what 20-50 people think of you. Think about handling what 100 people think of you. Then 1000, then 10000, then 100000, then the whole city, the whole state, then the whole country, and in Lin's case, the international world. Dealing it at 23... he's just proving he's normal Linsanity got to his head. The most important thing is what he's doing after it. Is he back for more or is he doing something that is actually building his career?

At least this quote clears everything up:

"I didn't go back to them and ask for more money," Lin said. "It wasn't like they gave me the choice to sign one of the two and I chose the one that would hurt the Knicks. I had one contract offer. That was it."

With no other offer on the table, Lin signed.

This should end speculation that Lin was manuevering behind closed doors and "squeezing" Dolan for every lasrt penny... This was the "Only Deal" and the Knicks wanted jeremy to test the market...so this is what they got.....

Fans have to stop blaming Lin.....he had to sign "Something"...otherwise he would have been at the mercy of "Dolan doing the riight thing"...whatever that might have been////

If you are still hurting over this well....Your not a new Yorker...

Only reason to get upset about this again is if he turns into a bonafide superstar that carries a young houston team to over .500

He is a good Kid. Because of that i want to see him be good.
But for the sake of the knicks organization I want to see him do bad.
Maybe for once the knicks can come out looking good.

Lin should make the Rockets plenty of money. The question is whether he will win them more games. There are folks around the league who are skeptical. One Eastern Conference GM told me this about Houston's acquisitions of Lin and Asik, each of whom was signed to a three-year, $25.1 million deal: "They paid $50 million for two bench guys."

Well, they won't be bench guys in Houston. And that's the problem. A lot of the league's talent evaluators view Lin as a backup. While that remains to be seen, I like Goran Dragic and Kyle Lowry, both of whom the Rockets got rid of this summer, better than him right now. Perhaps Lin will shine in Kevin McHale's pick-and-roll-heavy offense, but I don't see him becoming the star that he looked like for two months in New York.

whether he pans out to be a backup or a star, both scenarios would help NY....letting him go for nothing was a bad decision

I have no doubt in my mind, that Lin would've chosen NY if given the opportunity. But Dolan never made an offer, nor did he match the Rockets offer. What was Lin supposed to do? Say no to the rockets deal an retire, because NY didn't sign him? Lin did nothing wrong!

Other than that i can't believe you guys are still talking about him. He's gone, give it a rest and focus on the knicks upcoming season or get in one of those OT threads...
