Roster balancing move with the hope that Ellington will be the outside shooter we need

That would be a nice deal for both teams :)

Via Twitter:

Darren Wolfson: Told Ellington to Memphis for Cunningham is just about done. Verbal agreement is in place. Just have to submit paperwork. #Twolves

Wayne Ellington is a very underrated player. I love this trade for the Grizzlies. They get an off the ball shooter in exchange for a player like Cunningham who they don't really need anymore once Arthur is back.

If Wroten confirms himself as a very good perimeter defender, i predict Tony Allen wil be traded in mid season.

Yeah - TA getting traded is pretty much crazy talk. He's more than outperformed his contract. There's little to know way you could get anywhere close to value moving him.

The thing is if you don't trade TA this season, you end up with nothing. You know he's an expiring contract, right? You know he'll be an unrestricted FA, right? You know he's not going to resign with the Grizzlies, don't you? TA has big value for contending teams entering the final rush to the playoffs. Memphis doesn't have any draft picks for the 2013 draft. The Grizzlies are slightly above the salary cap, and trading TA they save good money. Also, it is known that Hollins has never been a great fan of TA.

I rest my case.

The Grizz should be looking at a playoff run.
Contending teams don't typically have assets that would return value for a contract such as Tony's.
I'll grant you that Hollins isn't a fan of Tony's - but Chris Wallace sure as heck is.

You got nothing.

Case dismissed.

http://blogs.commercialappeal.com/the_m ... trade.html

Looks like the deal may be held up a bit due to the Wolves may wish to involve Cunningham in another deal or the Nicolas Batum situation.

seems good for both sides - especially if Darrell Arthur is doing so well. Minnesota is completely reloaded and not much dead weight left on their team. I think they are competing for the playoffs this year and maybe even a 6 or 7 seed.
