wait I still need an adapter for my hard drive/external drive to function?
from other reviews and tutorial I posted, it functioned well right away just by connecting it to a laptop with a usb cable. hmmm... also, some say that I should re-format the memory before storing new files after retrieving the old files. is this necessary or just a precautionary measure?
No you don't need the adapter if you "want" the external case. The adapter I mention above is just another option that works. I've had to take out plenty of hard drives to recover data and accomplished that just by using the adapter.
Did you mean reformatting the whole drive after you restored your data and backed up your files on to another hard drive? Once you transferred all files that you want from the hard drive to your secondary computer, (and if you do intend to use the hard drive again as a spare external,) it is best to reformat it to increase speed, production, and capacity. Doing so will erase the system files, programs, and other data to make room for more space.

oh, thanks for clarifying SK. regarding the reformatting, yeah that's what I meant. I think I'm too lazy to back up all files.I have a new laptop and I intend to only store my office files there and my videos, pictures, music files in the external drive.
ayt, I'll just back up all files in the new laptop, reformat the external drive, then move all the backed up files from the laptop back to the external.Gek wrote:I blame other people. I read your post too tugs, but am not sure how to help.
