Anybody else endure the Miami Heat's 0-17 1988-1989?
Obviously, many in this forum where not born or where too young to care.
But, for those of us that have lived thru that beyond painful 0-17 first season, this last 2012 season was not only beyond special. But it has allowed me to bring closure to that 1st painful season and the many more that followed (excluding the Zo-Tim days, even if no Chip, they where nice cause we went to war each & every game.)
Ya, the 06 was great but it felt too similar when the then Florida Marlins won their 1st World Series & then seconds later the team was torn apart.
I know that's comparing apples & oranges but i'm just trying to paint a picture of my feelings then of the Heat.
The 06 Heat chip felt like a fleeting moment. As where this 2012 Chip feels like this is just the begging of even greater seasons to come.
We are truly blessed especially those of us that live here in MIA & have had to deal with those dreaded knicks/Jets fans in seasons of old & the like.
I can truly say, that the 2012 brought closure to those early years when it was "in" to mock the new Miami Heat team that sucked so bad.
I propose that we bury the "Lets not suck" slogan around this RGM Heat board.
Instead say something like "Lets be great again" or something like that.
IMO, Lets not suck no longer applies to this team. That applied to Heat teams of old that often sucked more than not.
Maybe, it's just me or those of us that remember going to school & always hearing the word "SUCK" in every sentence that the Heat was mentioned.
I guess you had to be there in Miami during times to understand that the word suck should not be mentioned with this team. Not even in reverse jinx style.
That's my 02c.

I was not a heat fan back then but it truly was painful! Ironically the heat have been the most successful of the teams that were added since the merger! Most of that is due to the great hiring of Pat Riley and making him a stakeholder of the team. He has been bold and creative in establishing an identity of a great team! From the hiring within which rewards loyalty to the personal recruitment, Miami is a first class organization!

I remember that season well... Was a freshman in high school at American High.
Wasn't pretty but the journey as a fan has been worth it.

You're 100% correct! The day the news broke (pre-Google, pre-RGM forum lol) that Pat was on his way to MIA, there was a huge buzz & it was as we had acquired some great players. Of course all the Knicks fans branded him "Pat the Rat". Truly, I did not care how Riles got here, all I knew was what he did for the Lakers and that was what mattered to me.
On another note, it was similar hoopla was when we got Jimmy Johnson for our Fin's team.
But, that fizzled the day Jimmy said he considered benching Marino in a game where he threw 5 interceptions. Fins fans flamed JJ all over the AM radio for admitting of thinking benching Marino & it went down hill from there & Jimmy rode off into the sunset straight to Key West, where he is still there today.
But, like Lebron, Riley is on another level all by himself. In short, he brought so much hope to Miami and so far he has delivered way beyond what I thought was even possible.

Wow, that's crazy! I went American High too, I was a Junior that year. (the one in Ludlam road and Miami Gardens, just couple miles west of Carol City High ). If its the same one, cause I remember Broward county had some High school called American Heritage High. I hated that our school mascot was literally identical color & old outfit of the New England Patriots, lol
For lunch many of us would go to the Little Caesars pizza or my fav latin restaurant "Food by the Pound" which is prolly gone by now.
Since you moved to Naples, do you still come down to visit MIA?

Wow make me feel like grandpa. I was at Thomas Jefferson Middle...
I remember wondering maybe this time... Just sucked but they were our team, hated that uniform, but it grew on me.
The volume level was always off..
We stop sucking along time ago, thanks to Pat
I miss the Dr. J R..

Nope but I did endure the 15 win season... I remember it so well...
When we broke the 14 game losing streak against the Pacers and we acted like we won the title... Penny Hardaway played for us a little that season... Riley saying Marion and Wade could be like Jordan and Pippen... heres the link to that btw haha http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post ... ba%2C65546
Also hated Mark Blount, all he did was **** shoot jumpers.
Im 17 now, so I was like 12 at the time, so I actually cried during some of the games lol...

Aye. I was in grade school during the inaugural season and recall being so geeked that we actually had the NBA in Miami that I didn't care how badly we sucked. (Although, I did believe we'd win that first game against the Clippers... I mean, it was the Clippers.
)
I still have vague memories of that first win (oddly enough, against the Clips) and being in near disbelief over the Jazz blowout for the first home win. Good times. Kinda miss the Miami Arena.
