Oakland wants Yunel Escobar and Jays look to be leaning towards Hechavaria very soon.

what would u want from Oakland in exchange for Escobar... Prospects?... MLB ready players?.. Pitchers?

can u name names... i know they got a nice pitching staff and JAYS really need pitchers

Yunel is the first real shortstop we've had in a very long time. It would take a bunch of prospects to take him away from the Jays, even if Yunel's stock is down atm. I really don't want to trade Yunel for a quick fix in the rotation just for a one game playoff. This team would just have another hole to fill at SS if Yunel is traded.

Hechavarria isn't exactly destroying Vegas so he's probably not ready to set into a major league bating box.

We are not competitive enough at the moment and Escobar is not a big enough difference maker to fret over whether he stays or goes

I'd look to move him

I wouldn't move him to OAK for anything less than Jarrod Parker (I'd throw in some more, but he's not a package for anything else they have), which they would never do. But I'm a massive defender of Yunel and his insanely team friendly contract.

I don't know why we'd trade Yunel with the uncertainty around 2nd base. If KJ walks in the off-season then we have an unproven Rookie at SS while trying to fill 2B as well. At least if we keep Escobar one of them can slide over to 2B.

Well Oakland is expected to get some of their starting pitchers back very soon which would mean they will have extras. If the Jays trade Yunel I would hope that some of their major league ready pitchers would be included in the package.

Heard Brett Anderson is the guy the Jays are interested in, but figured with Oakland in the race, they'd elect to go prospects.

Daniel Straily is someone I'd be interested in.

Not so sure about Anderson, he actually makes some money so i doubt we be interested in him.. We'd probably want Parker whose a lot cheaper. Anyways, someone would have to really, really overpay for me to move Escobar as Graham's cracker said with the uncertainty around 2nd base If KJ walks in the off-season then we have an unproven rookie at SS who will probably not come close to Yunels production) while trying to fill 2B as well! Best case is we hold onto Escobar and his fantastic contract and actually spend some damn $$$ on SP's this winter.

i'd like kj go first rather than esco, but i understand esco has better trade value at this point. hech can play both 2B and SS

the risk/reward quotient of trading Escobar's controllable years is lucrative therefore i am in favor of it. trading Hech wouldn't get us nearly as much return, yet he is a shoe-in for world class defense. focusing on his unproven bat is literally beside the point when you consider the young MLB-ready pitcher and high end prospect we'd be getting in return.

Escobar hasn't impressed at the plate anyway.

If it were to happen and Anderson was the guy coming back, then I'd start to really wonder whether the Jays are blowing up their pitcher's arms and just assuming it's bad luck (meaning they don't pay attention, not that I really believe it, but I don't believe they'd move Escobar for Anderson either). 32 starts in 3 years. And he's an utterly dependent on a dominant slider. To me, he's rapidly approaching McGowan territory and way too damaged to be the piece for Escobar.

I doubt they'd trade Parker for Yunel, but even Straily, Griffin and Milone are good guys to go after. Not all of them obviously, but there's no shortage of MLB-ready talent. I'm not all that interested in Brett Anderson... expensive, mediocre, only a few years away from free agency, and injury prone. And I really don't mind keeping Yunel, either. Great defender who has shown he can hit, albeit not a speedster or slugger, just kind of decent across the board.

MAybe it's just negotiating smoke, but one of the national writers tweeted that the A's are leery of taking on Yunel because of his personality

ESPN inside rumor is AJ Griffin for Yunel Escobar from the A's.

I'd be furious if that trade actually happened.

http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors

The Oakland Athletics were linked to Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar earlier this month, and they could have interest in Stephen Drew of the Arizona Diamondbacks if he's made available. Escobar appears to be the better fit, and he might have more value since he's signed beyond 2012 and does not come with the injury risk of Drew.

The A's have young talent to trade and Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com tweets Friday that rival executives see right-hander A.J. Griffin as a "viable" piece that could be enough to land the A's a shortstop. The Jays, coincidentally, have a need for young big-league pitching, especially with the struggles of Henderson Alvarez and veteran Ricky Romero, and the injury bug that has bitten Brandon Morrow and impeded the development of Drew Hutchinson and Kyle Drabek.

Other clubs could see Escobar as a prime target, too, such as the San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, or even the Detroit Tigers, who could then move Jhonny Peralta to third base and use Miguel Cabrera at first and DH, sharing time with Prince Fielder and greatly improving the club's infield defense.

I am already losing faith in AA when it comes to trading for pitching and it will be completely gone if he did that trade. Has he made a single good trade for pitching besides Morrow?
