I think if the Rangers really want him, they would be the frontrunners. They can offer a good selection of prospects.

I think AA will stick to the philosophy of acquiring assets under team control for at the very least this year and next. I hope that's what he does too. I don't want to waste our bullets only to have our high-priced talent walk at the end of the year.

1. we would be giving up a ton of prospects
2. he's likely walking at the end of the year
3. if he stays, he's likely commanding at least 100 million, the going minimum rate for a pitcher

we lose either way.

He has a NTC in his contract to certain teams and he let the Royals know he wasn't interested in being a Blue Jay last year so I doubt things have changed. If he was traded for I don't see him signing an extension and a rental this year wouldn't be a wise decision confiscating the Jays inability to field a healthy team.

AA wouldn't do it without an extension, not at the price in prospects he'll command. Lots of rumors about his non-interest in the Jays in that department, but I wouldn't worry about that too much (because it's impossible to know, not because it's not true).

I don't think Greinke's looking for an extension though. I think he's ready to be the big man in FA and make a gigantic truckload of money. With Hamels and Cain out of the picture, things are likely to get stupid fast for him, so I just don't see it because of the need to get him locked up.

If I had to rank the suitors in the order of the likelihood they get Greinke, it would go like this:

1. Rangers
2. Angels
3. Braves
4. Nationals
5. Blue Jays
6. Dodgers
7. Orioles

The Blue Jays are another dark horse in the sweepstakes, as Brewers GM Doug Melvin would like to reverse the Brett Lawrie deal of a year ago by getting one of the Blue Jays' blue-chip prospects for a top starter. However, the Blue Jays are apparently unwilling to give extensions beyond five years, and since Greinke reportedly turned down a five-year, $100 million deal earlier this month, I can't see Toronto selling the farm for a two-month rental.

I was wrong
Milwaukee will receive top infield prospect Jean Segura and two Double-A pitchers in exchange for their ace. The two teams are just putting the "finishing touches" on the completed trade.

we'll see if its worth the rental because i do not see them re-signing Greinke with the contracts they have tied up currently.
