Pena, Hellweg, and Schugel have solid numbers in AA.

I guess it depends on the arms but this seems ok to me.

Segura is 22, career .310 average, .364 OBP in minors. No idea on the glove. Pretty much no power, will be an average/OBP guy. Good base stealer.

Rangers apparently said no on Olt. That's why we went with the Angels.

He has one more triple than he does career minor league homers lol. Numbers look good though, interested in seeing who the pitchers are

SB Nation Writer thought Hellweg could eventually become a B+ prospect with sustained success.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal
Confirmed: Ariel Pena and Johnny Hellweg are two #Angels Double A pitchers heading to #Brewers along with Segura for Greinke.

3) Jean Segura, SS-2B, Grade B: Same grade he got last year which seems appropriate given the season lost to injury. Adapted well to shortstop although I've talked with people who think he'll still end up at 2B. In person, he looks a lot stockier/bulkier than his listed height/weight data, though the quickness is still obvious. I want to see his bat in Double-A.

7) John Hellweg, RHP, Grade B-: Weird season in the Cal League, was horrible in relief (7.71 ERA, 33/31 K/BB in 26 innings), but suddenly figured out how to pitch as a starter (2.12 ERA, 80/28 K/BB in 64 innings, 5.00 GO/AO). Upper-90s fastball, slider, changeup, 6-9 height. Is the breakthrough sustainable? If it is, will be at least a B+ a year from now.

15) Ariel Pena, RHP, Grade C+: Hard-thrower, impressive fastball and slider, struck out 180 in 152 innings in Cal League but also walked 81. Could rank as high as 10th if you believe in his ability to develop changeup and improve command.

My initial reaction is given the Angels prospects, I think Melvin did fairly well. Given how they compare to some of the prospects on other teams who were interested, I'm not so sure. At the end of the day, you can't force the Rangers to give up a guy they didn't want to, but I'm still not as excited as I could have been.

Yeah, obviously Olt would've been cool, but if they refused to part with him what are you gonna do?

so they asked for profar and were denied, then asked for olt and were denied, and felt segura (and the pitchers?) was their third favorite prospect being offered and pulled the trigger?

Profar and Olt are both in the Rangers system, the deal we just made for Segura was with the Angels.

EDIT: Maybe you knew that already, it was hard to tell by the way your post was worded.

I almost made the same post. I backed out because of the same confusion over the wording, haha.

My early reaction is that's a decent get and Melvin certainly could have done worse.

yeah i know. just mean if they felt the top three guys they coveted went profar--olt--segura they decided to take the deal. they could have held out a couple more days and waited for a better offer at the deadline---unless the angels said take it or leave it.

We were never getting Profar so I don't count that one. If they said no on trading Olt I don't think they were going to change their minds tomorrow.
