Wrong... it was lit by privileged kids nominated by the privileged upper crust of the society.
Hey, there's only room for one cynical jerk in this thread, and at least I'm not as unfunny as you.
No, your point is more pathetic than funny. On to the Argos and Allouettes...

Anyone know the name of the song played as the British athletes were about to go light the flame?

That was awesome, Danny Boyle did British arts proud. And the flame being made up of petals representing every nation competing was fantastic.
Too bad they had to roll out Paul McCartney at the end. Apart from his cock-ups it was faultless. But hey, I wouldn't be British if I didn't have something to moan about.

Or the other interpretation is that seven of Britain's proudest, self made Olympians literally passed the torch onto the next generation. I thought it was a nice touch. Too bad Paul McCartney can't resist the limelight in the same manner.

The Queen is a right moody cow. Props to the director though for showing her picking her nails and showing utter contempt for proceedings.

I guess part of my point is that - as much of the presentation was made of the Industrial Revolution where it was based on the suppression of the regular bloke and his children and how they persevered and overcame to create a better society.... then... If I was Danny Boyle (of Slum Dog Millionaire) who produced the show for about $60 million, I think it would have been better to have chosen a more "symbolic group of regular citizens" to light the flame - rather than the "A group of kids".

Criticising Paul McCartney and the Queen, are you sure you're British?
