Yeah it's been pretty awful to watch Bautista completely deteriorate since we signed him to that extension.

Encarnacion, Morrow, Escobar, Janssen have all been good extensions. Didn't AA sign Romoero as well? he's been bad this year but the years before that was a respectable contract, and even with his struggles right now it's still respectable.

The fact is every single team in baseball has guys they have extended and then haven't performed to expectations.
I often get the feeling around this forum that a good number of posters pay absolutely zero attention to any baseball teams other than the Jays.

Rios gets bashed unfairly. I think we gave up on him too early. He had been an allstar for us and his first full season with the White Sox he was an allstar and has been pretty decent since.

Which is one more than you implied by saying 'any player...'

Made sense to move his contract at the time, his skills appeared to be declining and he had alienated the fan base. He has been good lately but I don't remember him being an all star since joining the sox like you said.
Anyway, to the OP, as has been pointed out some players play for a fat contract and then put it on cruise or turn out to be fools gold, no more likely for it to happen to us than any other team, in fact, with AA's focus on character it's probably less likely to happen to us. Try doing some basic research next time.
