Preseason predictions - Western Conference

Post#1 » by nghedman » Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:56 pm

Now that most of the players have been set, get in and make your prediction. This is your chance to "officially" get down for bragging rights. Where are the Jazz going to place. And for fun what team or two is going to come out of the East. If you want to put down win/loss do that too.

Lakers 66-16 Yep Nash is still that good, and Kobe will adapt because he wants another ring.
Oklahoma 65-17 Gel even more but not much more to improve upon, they need playoff experience
San Antonio 59-23 Will they ever get too old. Papavich should get coach of the year here.
Clippers 63-19 Hardest to pick, they could even have a better record. Odom will open up their scoring that much more.
Utah 53-29 Most underated team in the west. Outside shooting be wonders for the Jazz this year.
Dallas 51-31 Love their big man acquisions, But does Dirk have the fire to carry this team?
Denver 51-31 Wow the west is strong this year. Lawson will be great for this team.
Memphis 50-28

Houston 47-35 Team too raw, will come together but it will take time to get in the winning ways
Minn 35-47 AK baby! Strong interior, and Rrrrrrrricky rrrrrrrubio, but I'm not convinced Mchale is the guy for Minn,
Portland 34-48 Best PG last year lost
Phoenix 31-51 All time great PG lost
Golden state 28-54 still trying to rebuild or are they going to tank again?
Sacramento 20-62 Don't seem to know what direction they want to go with their players and pick-ups
New Orleans 10-72 - wow they are just BAD! Rebuilding is a nice word here.

East: Brooklin Nets, They have the new players. And we all know they are not rookies too. Don't underestimate Brooks Lopez!

Hornets and Rockets should be nearly reversed. Houston's best player is Omer Asik, the Hornets added three near all-stars to a team that won 22 games in a lockout shortened season. Memphis is better than 50 wins as well.

The West is going to be insane this year......

LA (both teams), Oklahoma, San Antonio, and Dallas I think are locks for the playoffs......

That leaves us and Denver, Portland, Minnesota, Golden State, Phoenix, and Memphis figting for the three remaining slots.....

Houston (barring a blockbuster trade), New Orleans and Sacramento are again going to be bottom dwellers......

Every game against a possible playoff rival is going to have huge implications......

I predict our record will be 48-34.......

#1 Oklahoma City 60-22
#2 LA Clippers 56-26
#3 LA Lakers 54-28
#4 Utah 52-30
#5 Memphis 50-32
#6 SA Spurs 48-34
#7 Denver 48-34
#8 Minnesota 45-37

Non-Playoff Teams
#9 Dallas Mavs 42-39
#10 Houston 41-41
#11 Golden State 41-41
#12 Phoenix 38-44
#13 Portland 35-47
#14 New Orleans 35-47
#15 Sacramento Kings 30-52

Finally the collapse of the old Spurs and the commencement of the collapse of the old Lakers. New Orleans is the team that will improve as the season goes along and is ready to be a playoff team in 2014.

Jazz lose in second round vs. Oklahoma City who plays and loses once again to the Miami Lebrons! Miami Lebrons win 5 championships in the row, and this will be #2.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Apparently, Minnesota's not convinced McHale is the right guy either, since he coaches the Houston Rockets.

too soon to predict. There's still a lot of trades or/and sign who can change it all.

I like the Jazz's chances to make the 2nd round of the POs if we can avoid the Spurs. I think we'd have the edge on the Clippers, Nuggets, new Mavs and even the Grizzlies. I think we could give the Lakers and Thunder a good series, but we wouldn't be favored. Our improvement depends on how Favors and Burks are coming along, really. And the Marvin Williams move is going to look good given that we didn't really have a true SF option last year.

I don't think we'll make the playoffs....If anything, we're a bubble team.

 opps my bad....I knew he was new somewhere.

I still don't like him, maybe I should switch Houston and Minny.

Best and worst case scenarios:
OKC 1-3
LAL 1-4
SA 1-6
LAC 2-9
MEM 2-10
UTA 3-10
DALLAS 4-11
MINN 6-11

PORT 6-11
DEN 6-11
GSW 8-11
PHO 12-15
SAC 12-16
HOU 12-16
NOLA 12-16

I think there is a 1 in 5 chance that: Utah, Memphis, Lac miss the playoffs and a 1 in 5 chance that GSW make the playoffs. I think their is 2 in 5 chance Minny, Dallas miss the playoffs and a 3 in 5 chance that Portland and Denver make it. The last 5 spots in the west could be filled by any one of 8 teams. Injuries will cause the most changes to this. But I wanted to give each team range and potential as I see it.

For the three people who have NOH at or near the bottom, you must not have watched them when they had Eric Gordon at the end of the season. They spanked the Jazz and several other good teams.

Disregarding the McHale part, I don't see how we finish below .500 with all the upgrades to our roster. Rubio needs to be healthy, but all reports indicate he is ahead of schedule.

I like what most teams in the West have done with the exception of the Rockets who appear to be trying to rebuild.

Minny, GSW, LAC, and LAL all appear to be improved from last season, though I think we are too. Most excited I've been about an NBA season in a while in regards to other team's line ups.

Man Jazz seriously undercut this year by most folks. Do they see something we don't? Even still, some had us at 12 and 13, I just can't believe it.

Oh wow, Jazz homers on the Jazz board? Amazing!

How does this sound: "You want proof everyone on the GB is an idiot? Half of them have Utah at 13." You're prognostic declarations are no more valid than any of ours.

yeah except id rather go with 100 fans of 28 other teams rather than 10 utah jazz homers. obviously the first group is more likely to be unbiased and correct. so yes it is more valid.

Return to Utah Jazz
