Boston Baked Beans (49-50) @ Yanks (59-39)

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Thu Jul 26, 2012 9:53 pm

Swept in Oakland. Roster minus a fading superstar, gritty vet, and emotional reliever. For most teams it would sink their franchise. For the Yanks, it's what I call a litmus acid test and pre-playoff barometer reading.

Without Alex in the line up as a imposing force, the team is forced to consider the idea of manufacturing runs...and I think the addition of Ichiro was part of that. So far, Ichiro seems to work better at the top of the order so Jeter can see the pitches before an at bat.

Yanks depth is really what's at work. The pen, particularly the set up men have been getting a lot of work that will come in handy as the season winds down. I doubt most of them will get much work but you have to be pleased with how much Girardi never hesitates to throw them out there in big games.

With series against Boston and the O's coming up, Yanks can NAIL down the division even more so. That way, they can rest the vets.

It won't be easy. Boston is a little more healthy but it's not improbable.

Strong steady work by Hughes. Couple spots where he shouldn't have tried to come inside and paid the price but so far through 7 in the books, Yanks up 6-3. Very nice blend of power and manufacturing tonight. It's not so much I expect the Yanks to say "We can do this." so much as say "We are working on it."

Jetes continues to dance around .311 but tonight every one contributes and it was a balanced effort.

Still a lot can happen...

Damn it! All that effort from 3-0 to 6-1, and the Yanks blow it...

Something concerns me with amount of innings CC has thrown over the years. Bad habits when his fastball isn't hitting the spot.

Yanks move forward.

this team needs to find another top starter

aside from CC, these guys are middle of the rotation fodder that wont get the job done against PO teams in the fall

Watching this game on ESPN, it's a brand new ballgame now. Andrew Miller was throwing some sick sliders too.

Tough loss for the Yanks but again, I see this as a litmus acid test for this team AND management when facing RISP. It's when you are scrapping that the character of a team is defined. Lots of ball left, Yanks know what they have to build on.
