I have a feeling that Dwight is not serious about going to Dallas........... any more
Dwight said that his wish list was, Brooklyn, Dallas, and LA
but a few weeks ago, Deron's wish list was Brooklyn, Dallas, and LA
i think Dwight is really a "follower"..... i think he only picked those three teams is because he wanted to team up with Deron so bad.
it is still possible that Dwight goes to Brooklyn, but only if the Nets can trade away Lopez and Hump for cap, but i don't think any team is willing to take on that much salary from two players that are not franchise players.
i think if Deron ended up signing with the Mavs, Dwight would be screaming to be traded to Dallas, but right now he is screaming to be traded to the Nets (where Deron is)
Deron ended up passing on Dallas because he doesn't see them winning, i think Dwight will come up with the same conclusion as Deron, next summer and pass on Dallas.

Re: I don't think Dwight is going to Dallas
Honestly, I don't think Dwight really knows where he wants to be. From his statements, my guess is that he wants to be a part of his own "superfriends" combo and contend for a championship. All he knows is that it is apparent that this won't happen in ORL - for several years at the very least. The destinations he's thrown out have definitely been driven by a team's willingness to make these things happen. One of these factors is a organization's willingness to pay the Luxury Tax, since these would also be the teams who would be willing to both put together a set of superfriends and put the role players around them to compete for championships.
The obvious underlying ? here is can we lure him. Our history of avoiding the LT definitely doesn't help here. Can we sell him on saying we would? The history of our ownership group doesn't support that, but maybe the "new look" we've gotten under Ferry would help assuage those fears. I don't know - in the same situation, I would be willing to listen but suspect. I'd guess Dwight would be the same.

My bad, I honestly thought I saw Dwights name twice, not Dwight and Deron.

I think we can sell him on the idea of a Lux Tax team, the ownership group did say that theyll go into the tax for a superstar and Dwight is a superstar, plus theyll make money solely off of ticket sales if we get Dwight and another good player (Ellis, Iggy, CP3 Im drooling) so paying the LT shouldnt be a problem

You can say you're willing to do whatever until you're blue in the face, but it doesn't mean you will when the time comes. The simple truth is that ASG hasn't willing to put the money where their mouth had been the last few years. They tried to sell us on JJ, Smoove, and Horford being a championship core then wouldn't shell out the MLE when holes arose. No true C, Marvin @ SF, years of Bibby @ PG - all could have been addressed (at least partially) by liberal use of the MLE, but the ASG never pulled the trigger until last year when we went over by a few dollars to sign Dampier. Either it means that they really didn't think the core was championship caliber or it means they weren't willing to use $$ to address the holes so that the rest of the team was.ATL Boy wrote:I think we can sell him on the idea of a Lux Tax team, the ownership group did say that theyll go into the tax for a superstar and Dwight is a superstar, plus theyll make money solely off of ticket sales if we get Dwight and another good player (Ellis, Iggy, CP3 Im drooling) so paying the LT shouldnt be a problem
Sure, they'd be willing to take on $$ if it meant landing Dwight Howard, but would they continue to take on $$ to support him? Past history says no. We will have to prove that past history is just that - past history with no bearing on the future. As I said, if it was me, it'd be a hard sell, but I would listen.

They will have almost 50M on Joe, Deron and Wallace, so even if they trade all the other guys for expiring, they can't have enough cap room to sign him. They will have to make a sign-&-trade, and for that, they need to keep players.

Ellis can be fun to watch, and sells some tickets, but until now, he's a looser, the guy always used as example to show how you can have great personal stats but an big negative impact on your team.
No way you can build something with Ellis, unless you already have at least 3 superstars on the roster.

What's your point? It has been known that he will make more money by going to free agency and resigning with the Lakers.

Just saw this. If you're going to complain about each time the ASG refused to spend money, you're also going to have to credit them for having the 6th or 7th highest payroll in the NBA for much of that time.

Re: I don't think Dwight is going to Dallas
Don't know what you're driving at here. I agree that only a small subset of teams don't see the LT as any sort of glass ceiling that they don't want to go over unless as a last resort. Unfortunately, I think we can see that only that small subset are the teams that could logistically put together a "superfriends" team from FA and then also put a team around them.parson wrote:Just saw this.
