Re: International Hoops thread
they barely beat argentina today, but that was more due to a barrage of 3-balls than the overwhelming force of luis scola. OTOH, they might have flat out lost if Durant and Paul didn't hit back-to-back 3's.
durant is the lynchpin to USA's success imo. everyone else's slice and dice, dribble penetration (except CP3) is going to be ineffectual and force up bad shots up against the eurozone.

10 points on 5-7 shooting, 6 boards (3 offensive), 3 blocks, 1 ast, 1 stl, 4 fls. Only saw two of the fouls, one was ticky tacky.
14 minutes played.

They're long time Parker's friends. In french team the coach doesn't use the best players but the parker's friends. An excellent game from Kevin, as often with the French team. Best interior player by far.

Re: International Hoops thread
But you know from watching the game Turing and diaw move more intelligently, but I was aching for seraphin to get in and Turiaf and Diaw had to foul out for him to get into the game in the fourth. He did a good screen followed by an alley oop.good experience for him.
Also watched sme of nene and his outside shot doesn't look particularly good to me. But whenever he was in the game the team went on a run.
Also must feel good For san Antonio. Manu and Parker are so good and the focal parts of their national team. Each was responsible for the teams good plays and then when th hugged you remember some team is luckyenoughto have both. How did all those teams miss out on Manu? Diaw also is a spur so 3/5 the of spurs starting line up was in this game.
Now watching team USA and it cracked me up to see a full substitution and to have Westbrook, deron, Carmelo, iggy and love come in lol. Weight be aiming for something similar, not talent wise but the committee playing, sharing, defensive focus. Of course it's silly to compre the wiz to team USA.
More and more I've been looking at nba players during th games and counting which team has the oat players participating. We have seraphin and nene and wall participated in the preppingwhile beal may get there soon. Okc haswestbrook, Durant, harden and ibaka in these games
Kirilenko looked good in his game against china.

Re: International Hoops thread
I wouldn't be surprised at all if the US doesn't take gold in these olympics. They go as far as Durant and James take them offensively. They need more height. I'd personally play Anthony Davis a lot more. He's just as intimidating as Chandler to the competition.
When you have 5'9 guys driving into the paint on the US squad, there is a problem. The press won't work every game. Even Tunisia seems to have figured it out.

Perplexing, most teams seem to do really well against us initially, Tuniasia was not afraid. You have to think that the gold medal opponent will have a good game-plan for us.....which they may not be able to overcome anyway if our guys are playing well.

I won't be surprised, either, Induveca. Team USA is relying on pressing, turning the game into a transition game, and on hitting threes. What they are not particularly equipped to withstand is teams that beat the press and that have bigs who hit from the perimeter and who can control the boards.
All Team USA needs to be defeated is a close game in which Tyson Chandler and/or Lebron are in foul trouble. Anthony Davis should play more. I agree, Induveca.

Re: International Hoops thread
They fed anthony Davis a bunch of alley oops. You can also see he's not strong enough to push back against international big men, but his strengths he moved intelligently into empty spaces and has food anticipation. Then his freethrow is beautiful meaning his outside shooting can be good, like kg type good.
As I spoke Davis man blew past him to dunk. Then kobe smiled about it. Then Davis replies with a dunk

The real issue is the consistently SLOOOOW starts. Unacceptable after a quarter of play to be barely up on Indonesia. That's where the height issue comes into play.
That being said, the press over time certainly wore them down, and then they were blown out once they lost their breath.
Spain/Brazil/Argentina? Start off slow, missing jumpers and not adapting your defense could easily lead to a loss against any of the three.
I'd definitely play Anthony Davis much much more. A few blocked shots gets into opponent's heads....and even if outmuscled he still plays great defense. Smart kid.

I would be shocked. Keep in mind that Coach K is probably showing half or less of what we are going to do in the elimination round. We're going to win and by a lot.

Re: International Hoops thread
Speaking of showing half, looks like Kobe is over there getting in trouble in some party in Barcelona.

Re: International Hoops thread
Seraphin and Nene playing well. Glad to see Kevin bounce back, I'm glad he put up numbers in an upset yesterday. Nene has had some big moments in these close games as well.
Team USA looks vulnerable but I still see them in the medal game.
CCJ, Apparently Kobe's wife flew to London.

Re: International Hoops thread
She knows her man has to have it, apparently. I know when I was his age and on my own overseas in the military, I had some serious character flaws. Him being around women with alcohol served is a recipe for something that didn't work out too well for me in my first marriage. (I'm not judging him!)
It could also be Mrs. Bryant's way of making sure Kobe doesn't getting any you know what, on the side or from her. She could be in damage control to make sure the guy doesn't embarrass her or himself further with his escapades. "Kobe Gone Wild" must be stopped….
You don't suppose she flew all the way over there to serve him with the papers herself, do you?
