Re: Brandon Roy Presser, 1 pm
Yesterday, Portland Trailblazer doctors told me my aunt looked fine and she will be back to playing bingo in a week. My aunt's been dead for 12 years.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

Don't let Portland Trailblazer doctors look at your dead aunt, get Direct TV.

I'm pretty sure most Portland fans are rooting for Roy to do well actually.
Not that it really matters, but when KG went to Boston most Wolves fans wanted him to win that ring even though they hated Boston. I think it's probably the same.
And I thought you guys might like this. I got bored

Very good comparison.

I just have a hard time believing that Paul Allen feels the same. I am quite possibly wrong.

I would doubt it. I mean if it wasn't Minnesota, it would have been somewhere else. I hope Roy does well in his comeback, but I seriously have doubts he'll ever be close to what he once was and I think he may end up learning another hard lesson. I get it, he's 28 and that's young to end a basketball career when you were once considered a superstar in the league.
But if Roy comes into the Rose Garden on November 23, and kicks our ass and we lose, I will be displaying multiple personalities that night. One personally will be pissed off because we lost the game, but the other one will be happy for him.
Get used it guys, you will be seeing Blazer fans around now that you have Roy on your team. He really meant a lot to us.

"As much as I want to prove right that one guy who says I still have something in the tank, I have to think about my family and what the doctor is telling me," Roy said.

Then in his press conference today:
http://www.blazersedge.com/2012/7/31/32 ... conferenceWe pretty much left it up to the team to decide if they wanted to pursue the medical retirement route. After a week, they decided to use the amnesty. For me, it was never that I was retired. My knees were a situation that I was going to have to think about if I wanted to continue playing. After a few months of sitting out, I decided, 'Hey, I don't want to stop playing basketball.' It's something I want to continue going forward with. It's never a situation where I said, 'I'm done forever.' It was more of a pause.
Thanks to TSE for tracking down the Jason Quick article from December.
...being the key words.
If that is all you saw, then you missed the point I was trying to make. Maybe I wasn't clear enough and if so that was my fault.
Roy said he would never play again. Not this year. Not next year. Not five years down the road.
So he says he's never coming back, yet here he is. John Canzano called it when he originally retired.
"As much as I want to prove right that one guy who says I still have something in the tank, I have to think about my family and what the doctor is telling me," Roy said.
He still made his own decision based on what his doctor told him. There is a reason why it was suggested he should retire.
Now did you actually read that article, or what I just quoted? Because read this:
Days earlier he had met with the Trail Blazers' brass: president Larry Miller, interim general manager Chad Buchanan and head coach Nate McMillan. And later he would talk with owner Paul Allen. They all made his heart swell with unyielding support.
But deep down, he knew about his aches. And he knew about the clicks.
"The Blazers were supporting me 110 percent, and it made me feel that if they could give me that much support, then I had to be 100 percent honest about how I was feeling," Roy said. "I felt I owed it to the organization to be as honest as possible."
Later in the article:
That night, Roy called the Blazers and told them his career was over. He would seek medical retirement because of a career-ending injury.
So Roy came to the team and told him he needed to retire. This is clear now, right? So let's go to Roy's press conference:
We pretty much left it up to the team to decide if they wanted to pursue the medical retirement route. After a week, they decided to use the amnesty. For me, it was never that I was retired.
So now Roy is saying that it was the Blazers who forced retirement on him, not that he went to the team and announced his retirement. I remember well that Roy announced his retirement and then the Blazers used the amnesty clause on him because he retired so his contract didn't handicap them.
Now do you understand?

I don't think anyone on this board thought the payout would hurt Paul Allen financially. Our thinking is he would be mad/upset/furious that he is having to pay $17 mil to a player that is playing for a division rival. To use your $100,000 analogy, if I spent $170 on two Timberwolves tickets, and went to the game with my girlfriend, everything is fine. But if I spent $170 on two Timberwolves tickets, and my girlfriend took the tickets and went to the game with her ex, I might be a lil mad/upset/furious.

My old rep was awesome. Often throwing freebies our way.
It could be because we (me and PeeDee) are in the cheap seats now, or the fact that there are so many more season ticket holders, but the new rep is pretty absent.

Re: Brandon Roy and Timberwolves Agree To Terms
I have only been a season ticket holder for a couple years, so for me they have done a lot. Maybe thats just what they do at the beginning to keep you interested, but yeah they def hook you up. I sat front row for the Heat game this year, they interviewed me and everything, upgraded seats a lot, all the special stuff like meet and greats, and they had the free suite for all the business alliance members as well. I did the 30 dollar seats a couple years ago, and I'm really glad I did. I'm like right on the boarder to where if I was 3 seats more towards the center I would be paying more than double. I found that I can make good money on selling the tickets to the games that I don't go to as well. Stubhub is really awesome. Yeah the reps can be really great though.

As an outside observer here, I'm confused... I thought Por amnestied Roy from the get go... So even if he comes back, he has already been payed his money? So PAllen isn't being hurt 'more' or did I miss something?

Between this, Batum and the Webster ordeal, rumor is Allen's got hurt feelins.

Part of Brandon's contract with Portland was covered by insurance if he never played another game in the NBA. Paul Allen wouldnt get that coverage and would have to pay an extra 17 million dollars.

I don't think they pay them lump-sum.
Year 1: $12 mil
Year 2: $13 mil
Year 3: $14 mil
Year 4: $15 mil
If a player is amnestied after Year 2, I don't think he is paid $29 mil up front, I think they are still on the books as they would regularly be, only they don't count toward cap-space.

I think a part of Roy's contract was being paid by insurance, which goes away if he starts playing again.
