Realistically - what seed is this Knicks team worth?
Assuming we avoid prolonged injuries to key players, where should this team end up at the end of the regular season? My take is that talent-wise, we should be no lower than the 4th seed. Anything under 4, would be a failure for Woodson and the team.
Quick analysis:
1. Miami - added Ray Allen to compensate for Wade/Battier/Haslem/Anthony declining. They are probably as good as they were last season and a clear favorite to take the #1 seed.
2. Pacers - Pretty much treaded water. Let Collison go, but kept everybody else. Second most talented team in the East.
3. Celtics - Garnet/Pierce are one year older. Lost Pietrus and Allen, but added a 35 YO JET and Courtney Lee. Gerald Green also coming back. Overall, I think they'll be worse with Garnett becoming a corpse this season and Pierce significantly declining.
4. Chicago - No Rose for most of the regular season and just lost most of their bench. Rip is 35 and injury prone. Deng is injured. Boozer declining. I can't see them winning more than 45 games this season and that's a very generous estimate.
5. Brooklyn - Add JJ and Lopez is coming back. Deron/JJ/Lopez is a decent trio, but I can't see them getting into the top 4 in the East.

4th and up. As we saw last season seeding is very important, I think our biggest challenge will be beating the teams we're supposed to beat. IMHO we can and should win the division.

How is the offseason not over? Can you name a single impact player who is still a FA?

Off season isn't only about free agency there are also trades. There are still some solid players out on the market like Carlos Delfino, Leandro Barbosa, and Kenyon Martin.

I can't see us lower than a third atm. We pretty much handled Indiana last year and I feel our roster made more improvements then them.
Add a strong backup PF we could battle for second.

Delfino signed with the Rockets. Barbosa/Martin will probably not go to the East and they won't be difference makers in any case.
Trades can happen at any point in time until the trade deadline.

Re: Realistically - what seed is this Knicks team worth?
I disagree with the notion of Boston being worse than last year. IMO with Rondo/Bradley along with JET/Lee they have one of the most interesting mixes in the backcourt. That backcourt rotation has essentially everything from defense to offense. Pierce/Garnett/Bass/Green keeps them more than competitive in the frontcourt as well. I'd be surprised if they win less than 50 games and see them as our main competition for the division title. I'd go like this:
1.Miami 62-20
2.Knicks 54-28
3.Boston 53-29
4.Indiana 51-31
5.Brooklyn 48-34
6.Chicago 47-35
7.Atlanta 44-38
8.Philly 43-39
I might be in the minority but I absolutely love the additions we made this offseason (Kidd,KT,Camby). They provide invaluable leadership, attitude, experience, defense etc.--Felton IMO is a solid PG that will do a decent job. I'd be very surprised and almost shocked if we end up with less than 50 wins.
My personal feeling is that if our team is healthy we have a great chance at making the ECF. Boston will be our main competition---I feel like with our additions we can pull out a playoff series win but it'll be pretty much a coin flip.
Miami is a different animal....in order to beat them we'll need to play perfect games and have them at less than 100% and not on top of their games. If we are on top of our games and face a Heat team the way they were playing again Indiana + one of their main guys missing a couple games we can come close but I fully expect the Heat to make the finals again. It is what it is .....when 3 top 20 players in their prime pair up to play together it'll be hard to beat, regardless of what you do or don't.

Re: Realistically - what seed is this Knicks team worth?
It's gonna be a dog race with the C's, but I think each year more than the last they'll have to rest their starters significantly in the regular season. That should be an edge for us to win the Atlantic. The Nets will be the third in that race mainly due to adjustment period and a weak front court (Lopez isn't that good, Humphries is a hustle man). Indy isn't as good as the Knicks or C's, they got a little bit worse (though I commend them for only losing a little bit of their edge in a tough off season) and I already thought the Knicks would be better than them having watched season match-ups.

???? Unless he just just signed the talk is that he has an offer from the Rockets but hes not keen on the situation.

Re: Realistically - what seed is this Knicks team worth?
3rd-4th seed.
50-53 wins I where I see this team next year. I expect Amare' to bounce back and average 19-20ppg and 8rpg. I see this team really gelling after the all-star break.
Miami 60-22
Indiana 54-28
New York 52-30
Boston 50-32
Brooklyn 49-33
Chicago 47-35
Milwaukee 42-40
Philadelphia 41-41
Washington 41-41
Indiana let Collison go, an decided to go with George Hill. A better defensive PG but not a true playmaker.
Yea Garnett and Pierce is older, but Jason Terry can do more than Ray Allen at this point of their careers.
Milwaukee got on a run towards the end of the season, I can see them improving this year with Dalembert at C.
I don't see Philly improving without a true bigman. They have a bunch of small fowards and shooting guards with Spencer Hawes and Kwame Brown their only true big men in the rotation.
If NeNe and Okafor can stay healthy that front court tandem is good defensively and can help John Wall with the scoring down low.

We can be as high as 2 and as low as 6. My bet is on either the 3rd or 4th seed.

Re: Realistically - what seed is this Knicks team worth?
Bottom is 4th, top possibly 1st. It depends on how well Amare plays and Shumps contribution toward the end of the season. I expect us to be the #1 defensive team in the league while our offense will be nothing to sneeze at. We have the personel to replicate what Chicago has done for the last 2 seasons.

Indiana will be the 2nd seed? Am I missing something? Hopefully they don't have too many 'winnable' games.
