Yi JianLian worth vet minimum?

Post#1 » by MigrainePatrol » Wed Aug 1, 2012 12:22 am

This guy just needs to be motivated, he handled himself against some elite bigs like Pau Gasol and Serge Ibaka very well in that game. 30pts 12 rebounds game high. I think for vet minimum the rockets should sign this guy.

well if morey knows whats good for him he'll get rid of kevin martin before the season starts, and lamb cant start sg in his rookie year, so yi being a pf thats plays like a sg, he fits the bill.

thou shall sign yi jian lin or thou shall receive death quickly

He's a legit 255lbs @ full 212cm or 7'0". The Slavic kid Mojetunas or whatever is 223lbs so no way is he a PF. Yi handed Ibaka his @$$ a couple times and has some strength to play the 4 or 5. He's a starting 4 if motivated and can play the 5 as well.

donatas is what yi wishes he was. a young pf with size that plays like a sg. thats what yi was, now he's a bum. if motivated, lol. if kobe wasnt selfish, if yao/tmac werent injury prone, if the basketball gods didnt hate the rockets. u gonna drive yourself crazy with that "if" speech

Here is my assessment of Yi .

Yi takes time to develop for a big man.

I think he finally "click"

He has a 9'4" standing reach. Amazing. He is a good player.

But my question is ...we already got lots of power forward already. Granted Yi can play center.

Unless Houston want him to backup ASIK. I just don't see him play any minutes at the 4 spot.

The way he handled Ibaka and Gasol in the post against Spain, I really do believe he is better than Asik and can do so much more. I think you pay this guy vet minimum and let him start at the 5 for most games, if Asik complains trade his @$$.

What is Yi's current contract status ?

How much is he making now ?

btw, I know he improve a lot.

I am not sure how is his pick N Roll game.
If yi is has good pick N roll game. Then its really worth it. Yi and Asik can share minutes.

It does not matter who start the game. Yi would have plenty of playing time at center

I am more concern about ASIK in terms of minutes, not sure if he could play for more than 28 minutes a game.

He's an Unrestricted Free Agent. He earned $827,221 for Dallas last season in which he only played 30 games and clocked a measly 6.8 minutes per game.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

glad that he's playing well in olympics, but i wouldn't add him to the rockets. He is unproven to me, and played poorly every stint in every nba team

I still remember that game when he was a rookie with Milwaukee vs Yao and they said it was the most watched basketball game in the world. Yi actually played pretty well in that game.

I think Okur would be a better backup center. Yi is really a 7ft small forward

The guy hasnt done sheit in the NBA... Rox dont need him

the only reason I can see Rox getting him... is this team is going lottery anyways... and in 3 years time both Asik and Lins contracts expire...

he needs to be one of the top scoring options... and maybe like others say he gets motivated...

1. Yi always plays well in the olympics, doesn't mean anything

2. Theres a lot of players who play well in the NBA that won't ever do anything in the league

3. Stop putting up players heights/weight and saying what position they should play. If I put up barkleys measurements no one would say he's going to be one of the greatest rebounders ever but he was. The way a player plays has a lot to do with what position he plays not just his height/weight....

at this price 800k that is dirt cheap.

I would get him as a backup to ASIK.

He proved he could go toe to toe with Gortat and Paul Gasol

Seriously that is dirt cheap. We DON'T KNOW how many minutes ASIK can play. We desperately need someone to backup him up. For the price of 800K that is dirt dirt cheap !!!!
