i never got why waiters shot up in the draft and he didnt impress me in summer league seemed to be out of shape. barnes certainly can shoot the ball no question about it, and it would have been a nice replacement if we were to let batum walk but it was a more than fair shot that he was going to stay. i thought ross was drafted a lot higher than he probably should have, you can make an argument that he was the biggest surprise of the draft.

when it came right down to it there were only 2 legit choices at #6 and it was drummond or lillard as they both fit a need and had the most star potential left on the board. given the fact that we also had the #11 pick to more than likely pick up the second best C in the draft, i dont think there was much of a debate in the war room between lillard and drummond.

Waiters was my top one but that's a wash since he was already taken. Barnes would've been my preferred choice out of the guys on the board, though I saw some logic to drafting Drummond at 6 as well. I liked Terrence Ross more than Lillard as well.

I'm far from all knowing on these matters so it should be interesting to see how my top choices pan out. While he was picked too early for us to draft him, I'm probably most interested in seeing what Waiters can do. He's got quite the combination of size and speed, and i'm interested to see if he can adjust to the NBA in other areas. I imagine a lot of people gasped when Cleveland picked waiters so high and undoubtedly it was a reach, but I think it could turn into a solid move for them. More than anything I was hoping that MKG would fall but I think we all knew that wouldn't happen since before the draft.

What some of the Cavs fans think of Dion Waiters:

kd35sneighbor wrote:This is the first time I learned that Chris Grant was the GM in Atlanta and the one who took Marvin Williams.

No wonder.

Why do people have faith in this guy at all? I don't get it.

AlencoaoFCP wrote:The worst thing, and the one that annoys me the most, is his body and his willingness to get beter. I hate the fact that he's fat. I think it says a lot about him and his character..
With that being said, I don't think he's going to be the best player he could be, What a waist of a 4th pick.

fart wrote:an hour later, I am still in shock. this is why we will never have a championship team. unbelievable.

Let's move on to Summer League:

fart wrote:Waiters playing like poop tonight. He looks so short and chunky out there, no way this guy is going to be able to play SG in the NBA. I didn't like the pick on draft night and I don't like it tonight. I can't believe we passed on Barnes for a short chunky PG. I think all his attempts have been 3pters. Never change chris grant, never

Wisedude42 wrote:Waiters is a BIG draft mistake. short and chunky is no good.

SaiCLE wrote:Decent game for what is was, Waiters was off today and wasn't attacking the basket, and he was to passive, which concerns me :(

jjtreyball wrote:Hopefully he's not trying just cause he thinks he's too cool for summer league or something. Kyrie will set him straight

SaiCLE wrote:My only complaints for now are, Dion doesn't show any interest in playing defense and transition. He is capable of being the best guy on the court, but yet he is passive. It's so frustrating to see

Fischella wrote:Lamb is better than Waiters by a huge margin, he's better than Waiters, Ross and Rivers and he fall to 13, it's amazing

jjtreyball wrote:Dion missed a couple givemes which in time will fall but he showed great court vision and split a ton of double teams. He also had some bad turnovers on the fast break but they are very fixable. He also had some really nice drives and I believe he didn't hit a jumpshot the whole night. His defense was a little better but not much

fart wrote:one of these days, he will shoot at least 40%. one of these days!

gordito wrote:I am really going to do some serious praying for this guy to pan out. I'm getting very nervous with the way things are currently looking. He doesn't look like the type of player that could have longevity in the league. At all. Hopefully some of ya'll are right and it's "just the Summer League".

tidho wrote:Interesting to see Byron calling out Waiters so soon - re: conditioning and defense.

Summer league will naturally bring the conditioning but I'm sure he doesn't want any backsliding before the season starts.
Defense is going to be a challenge for him simply because what he was asked to do in college is so much different than it is here.

truwizfan4evr wrote:Dion Waiters is shooting 30 percent from the floor entering Thursday’s summer league game against the Timberwolves and has struggled at times defensively.

“The biggest thing with him is conditioning,” Scott said. “Once he gets in shape, all the other stuff will start to come.”

Scott believes Waiters needs to drop about 10 pounds as well as work on his defensive technique.

“He’s so used to zone [defense] the last couple of seasons that he stands around a lot on the defensive end,” Scott said. “We have to get him out of that. He has a ways to go in that

Reading this story I want to know what do Cavs think of Dion Waiters so far? And his health and do you regret drafting him? And would you guys would of like to had move up to second pick to draft Bradley Beal?

What some of the Cavs fans think of Dion Waiters

Yup but drafts aren't popularity contests. I think they'll be a bit less angry by the end of the season.

SaiCLE wrote:My only complaints for now are, Dion doesn't show any interest in playing defense and transition. He is capable of being the best guy on the court, but yet he is passive. It's so frustrating to see

jjtreyball wrote:Dion missed a couple givemes which in time will fall but he showed great court vision and split a ton of double teams. He also had some bad turnovers on the fast break but they are very fixable. He also had some really nice drives and I believe he didn't hit a jumpshot the whole night. His defense was a little better but not much

tidho wrote:Interesting to see Byron calling out Waiters so soon - re: conditioning and defense.

Yup but drafts aren't popularity contests.

You should use that advice on yourself. ;)

The original post had genuine moments of hilarity... Quoting the whole thing was only funny in that it was absurd. Maybe "down page scrolling" will someday be an Olympic sport, but until that day I can not devote this kind of time training for it. :-)

Here is a few tweets from Brian Smith, who used to write for the Columbian while covering the Blazers, but is now a beat writer for the Salt Lake Tribune covering the Jazz:

Damian Lillard fans hanging at the Layton mall, waiting for an autograph

Lillard factor: Weber State rep said school's never sold gear off campus. Starts today, timing in with new logo; Lillard's autograph signing

Damian Lillard basically set autograph signing up himself. Wanted to give back to school and Weber State fans.

Damian Lillard said he's kept in touch with LaMarcus Aldridge ever since Blazers drafted him. Aldridge wants to push Portland back to ... ... playoffs. Lillard said his response has been, "Why not?" So that's become his goal during rookie season.

Lillard said Ogden's his second home. Went out of his way to set up autograph signing for Weber fans, some of whom lined up at 11 a.m.

Cleveland is beyond (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Why would you hire a guy who drafted a bust, not a injury guy a stright up can't play like a 2 pick bust. On top of that they draft a fatty who is less than an inch taller then Irving to play 2 guard???? I am sorry but when your 6'2" you should not be 220 if you wanna be a Pro that is...The TT pick wasn't really bad though.

No, I finished a more extended report on Lillard and then started on Leonard, but haven't finished it yet because I got lazy 8-)

Still open on my desktop, will get back to work on it, and post them both together.

Yea I was wondering that too, did I miss it?

Here is a good video of Lillard's Sophomore season the year before he had a red shirt.
