Running the floor & shooting FTs good wont keep you in the league.

Seems like this Lithuanian coach likes to play the vets and thinks Kleiza is LeBron

Rebounding at a high rate and shooting 60% from the field will though. He's more skilled than what's been seen in these Olympics.

I remember when posters like Major Tom and Backdoor boy said that Bosh would never amount to anything in the NBA, because he was too skinny. I wonder if Backdoor boy also reads someones gait to establish their level of success in the league.

Curious if you guys are making opinions from the Olympics game alone. If so you might as well write off NBA all-stars such as Tyson Chandler and Chris Paul who look pretty mediocre with even more minutes. How about Anthony Davis?

The Lithuanian coach prefers smaller lineups and Val just isn't getting enough minutes. Part of that also has to do with matchups. For example today he didn't play much against the US because he's obviously not going to defend Carmelo, who at times played C, on the perimeter.

People need to relax. He's played a whopping 42 minutes total in the olympics. You're going to project his NBA career based off those 42 minutes and completely ignore his other accomplishments? Even in the limited time, he totalled 18 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks on 60 % shooting. Those kind of numbers would be good for a guy who played 42 minutes in a game, no? I doubt that many people here have seen him play outside of these few Olympic games where he's played 10 minutes.

These Olympic games are simply a learning experience for him. For those of you writing him off, remember, he destroyed USA in the U-19 World Championships to get tournament MVP. The team with Jeremy Lamb, Patric Young, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Tony Mitchell. That should show you where he's at in terms of competition at his own age group. He's a young big... it's going to take him some time to get acclimated. He's still been really efficient in these games. The foul trouble will improve with experience, as most bigs do.

problem is once he gets to the NBA he plays against guys 8-10 years older than him. I'd say he becomes a force his 3rd or 4th year in the league

And that is good enough. Bosh had limited success his first two years.

It'll take him a little bit of time... but when he gets there, he'll be one of the better 5's in the league.

Yes, Raptor fans tend to overrate their guys, but EVERYONE tends jump the gun on evaluating prospects - good or bad. JV has an excellent frame and motor, good hands and decent athleticism. His slate in the post is far from blank, as well. Under the tutelage of a future hall of famer in Aaron Gray he will most certainly be a solid anchor.

All I know is that Valanciunas is frequently compared to Enes Kanter and Jonas will destroy that bum in his rookie season. Kanter averaged 4.5 pts and 4 rbs as a rookie. Jonas won't be D12 or Bynum but he's top-tier in his age-group and will put up better numbers than Kanter who will be in his second year.

When you think in terms of age and capability then Jonas' future is very bright.

Both guys have a lot of skill as big men, but JV is definitely a lot more battle tested against men.
Kanter definitely has a better body, but JV is better in terms of traditional big men intangibles that help teams win.

Turkey wasn't good enough to make the Olympics

You forgot Meyers Leonard. He went head-to-head with Meyers and Young and tore them up.

Anyway, if Robertas Javtokas wasn't hurt Valancunas would be getting even less minutes and would not be starting.
