Re: KOC moving up to
My gut is that O'Connor wants a less 24/7/365-type schedule, since he's up around retirement age. Can't blame him either, if that's the case.

Re: KOC moving up to
can someone explain what this will mean for his duties going forward compared to what they were as GM?

Locke asked KOC about it today at the golf tourney they're both at; KOC's response? "no comment"

My guess is that he'll take over some of the duties currently handled by Randy Rigby and Greg Miller. It may mean a demotion for Rigby, but that's just me speculating.

...and essentially this means KOC is relinquishing the duty of being in control of our roster moving forward?

Seems like it may be something like that or possibly some type of health problems. Seems like there's more to this than is out so far.
Might not be a great situation for a new GM if he has a bunch of people he has to run everything by above him.

I imagine he would still have a lot of control over final decisions but won't be the guy manning the phones discussing deals.

Any situation is a good situation for a new GM. It would mean a substantial raise, higher pedigree on their resume, moving on up the ladder, etc. etc.

He was running basketball operations. Now the scope of his job will be more broad, and whoever takes over as GM will be working under KOC. Im sure he will still be involved in key decisions. Thats the impression I got anyway...

Kind of like how Larry Bird or Donnie Walsh haven't technically been the GMs...they've been executives with GMs under them. Yet still are major decision makers

Dont like this at all. That means KOC will no longer be the decision maker regarding draft picks or trades or free agent signings. KOC will basically be more of a figure head. In KOC we trust so anyone else (except me LOL) would be a worse choice.

Not a chance. Jazz have reportedly been interviewing possible candidates from outside the organization.

Yea dont forget that jazz are loyal to a fault. Layden is getting the job, book it.
He screwed up the knicks and never was able to build a winning team around Stock and Malone.

Re: KOC moving up to
maybe KOC can take scotty layden under his wing, and corbin can get a new coach. i've always been uneasy with scotty on the bench as the number 1 guy. and this way, with KOC still "controlling" things, scotty cant ruin this organization like he started to with the knicks pre-isiah.
still i wonder if AKs max deal was KOC's or LHM's doing? whoever it was, it hurt the franchise for a long time, and the other one should have said "No" to it. boozers, the first and last okur, and both of the dwill deals were good though. same with the first korver deal, but it sucks he let him walk.
i like that KOC is moving on, but i also like that he is staying around to let his "risky" behavior, or rather his version of a trigger finger influence the next guy-hopefully for the better. whether KOC helped the jazz win the most they could is still debatable, but you can't argue he certainly knows his way around the league. he has tremendous respect from other gm's.

Re: KOC moving up to
He just doesn't fit the profile of guys they're reportedly looking at, who all seem to be younger assistance GMs.
