Wait, what? Are we forgetting about Deron?

do you honestly think he is 1 of the 25 best players in the league right now? For this season only. Not taking age into account. Of course he isnt. And all that matters in this debate is this season.

Whoa, whoa, Deron is a top 25 player. what 25 guys are better than him right now?

You are probably one of the few people who doesn't. I've heard legitimate arguments about being just outside the TOP TEN, but outside the top 25???

Nuts.

:o

10 teams in the West (in no specific order)
LA
OKC
SA
DAL
LAC
MEM
UTA
MIN
DEN
POR

all can make the playoffs.

Only team that's truly bad in the West is SAC, and that's mainly because they can't get their team to blend together.

East:
MIA
BOS
NY
CHI
IND
BKN
PHI
Only teams that even have playoff talent squads.

Portland is a major stretch. They're still a mess, and a lottery team this year. Washington improved a lot, and the Bucks only finished about 2 game or so, from the playoffs.

Deron imo is top 10...LeBron, Wade, Durant, Howard, Paul, and Dirk are for sure ahead of him. I can understand the cases for guys like Kobe, Nash, Rose, and Westbrook. So 11th at worst imo, but could be as high as 7th.

Outside the top 25? That's ridiculous. Let's not forget how good D-Will is.

West is MUCH MUCH deeper....

East has a top 5
MIA
BOS
IND
NYK
BK
(I would put Chicago but who knows when Rose is back and how he comes back)

Then there are the teams fighting for the last couple spots...
PHI
MIL
ATL
WASH
They don't really inspire fear in anyone but could make the playoffs.

And then there are the long shots for the playoffs..
TOR
CLE
DET
CHA
ORL (depends on Dwight)

Compare that to the West....

The contenders...
LAL
OKC
SAS

The wannabe contenders
LAC
MEM

The good but not great teams
DEN
MIN
DAL

The wildcards
GSW
UTAH

And the ones on the outside looking in
PHO
SAC
NOH
HOU
POR

The West has 10 teams that would probably make the playoffs in the East. I only see 5 teams in the East that make the playoffs in the West.

the Nets were 22 games under .500 last season

Joe Johnson is good, but idk if he's worth enough wins to get the Nets over 53 wins this next season. I dont think the Nets are going to be as good as most seem to think. I dont see them as a top 4 team in the East.

Dallas will probably win at least 50. If I had to, Id put money on Dallas having a better record than Brooklyn.

Please tell me how many games Deron/Wallace/Humphries/Lopez played together. If its more than the number 0 than what you posted is correct if it's exactly 0 than stop pretending they just added Joe Johnson to last years starting season roster

If Dirk comes in motivated, the Mavs win 50-55 games. The dude is a HOFer.

The only way Brooklyn wins 50-55 games is if they get Dwight. I see 40-45 wins.

So, the Mavs have won 50 games in each of the past 12 non-lockout years with varying lineups around Dirk? That is perhaps the best indicator of what they will do in 2012-13. I know organizations don't win championships(Jerry Krause), but superstars do. The Mavs happen to have one.

I think Nets fans are drastically overrating their acquisitions this summer.

Let me ask their fans this: how many games - realistically - do you see the Nets winning this season?

I guess it's just the Mavs' homer in me but I'm shocked at the number of people who picked the Nets

Considering the demograpics of the board, I actually expected the poll to reflect nearly 10 to 1 for the Nets. BSPN, for example has a totally eastern bias. If NBA general managers were polled, I suspect they would give the nod to the Mavs. Both teams are unproven at this point, although the Mavs have a man that's done it for 12 years and a winning culture, whatever that is. . . .lol

This sounds like a couple of months ago when people were using past achievements as to why Deron was going to Dallas.

Personally, assuming a relatively healthy roster, I'm expecting 50-something wins. Worst case, mid to high 40's.

It's a talented squad. They'll struggle defensively, but they'll be excellent offensively imo.

There is almost a consensus now among Mavs fans that losing out on Deron Williams was not necessarily a bad thing. Until Odom failed to cooperate, Dallas had an opportunity to sign and trade for Deron. When that became impossible, the team around Deron and Dirk would have been extremely sparse. So, actually, Deron turning down the Mavs and signing with the Nets worked well for both teams

45 wins. Things aren't going to come together perfectly on Day 1 and they're bound to have some injuries.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Mavericks win 50 games and get bounced handily in the first round.

You think so?

The Nets look nice on offense, but HORRIBLE on defense. How are they going to stop teams?

Brook/Hump is easily one of the worst defensive combinations in the league. People prop up DWill because of this so called ability to guard multiple positions when he doesn't guard even one. JJ? Nah. Wallace was a very nice defender, but is not an anchor by any means.

You need to play 2 sides of the ball to win in the current NBA, the Nets do not have the pieces to do so
