John Jenkins Wants To Play Significant Minutes

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Aug 6, 2012 3:38 pm

It should be interesting to see how Coach Drew handles his situation.

John Jenkins is hoping to see a lot of playing time next season.

“This whole thing is a learning experience, and it’s going to be one for a long time,” Jenkins said. “I know a lot of guys have been traded. It’s just an opportunity for me. If I’m going to start, I’m going to have to really work hard for it. I just want to play a lot of minutes.

“As long as I can play a lot of minutes for an NBA team, I think that’s good enough. But I guess everybody wants to say they start for an NBA team.”

Jenkins performed well during summer league games in Las Vegas, averaging 15.6 points on 50.8 percent shooting from the field.

“They (Hawks) think I did really well,” Jenkins said. “I talked to Danny Ferry and he was very pleased. (For my) first games as a professional, I thought to myself I did well. I got guarded very tough … kind of like college almost. I got face-guarded a lot without the ball, and I still worked to get off shots. I’ll try to carry that on into training camp.” http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... _For_Hawks

I'm excited to see Teague and Jenkins play together next season. Teague hasn't played with a player that runs through picks like Jenkins does. I think he can get good minutes this season. It looks like he has good work ethic and is very coachable. He'll get the minutes he wants eventually, I'm sure of it.

Drew has been known for not playing rookies. Spurs, where Ferry came from, have been known for playing their young guys. lets see what happens.

Short term, Morrow would probably be better.

But he is an expiring and Jenk is a Rookie. I would rather give Jenkins the minutes.

We really need to move a guard or two.

Might as well this is basically a throw away year to evaluate everyone's value. hopefully he gets 25-30 mins.
He might even start.

Teague/harris
Jenkins/Lou
morrow/korver/deshawn
Smoove/ivan
Horford/Zaza

Why is this a throw away year. There are 2 good teams in the conference and a bunch of maybes.

Forgive me for being Captain Killjoy, but Jenkins is a prospect. Right now, he has to learn to play defense before we start his push into the HOF.

I'll be happy if he becomes a solid starter in 3 years.

That would destroy his career.

The only way to learn to play defense at a NBA level is to play Defense at a NBA level, not just practice.

Sadly, we don't have a single perimeter defensive stopper on this team to show him the ropes. Staying in front of Harris, Teague and Williams at practice will help some, but as far as pure, defensive know how, we are kinda at a lost.

Not sure we're on the same wavelength. I expect Jenkins to play (hopefully, a lot) for us from the very beginning.

Too bad Jenkins could never turn into the same caliber NBA player that Draymond Green came to be.

Jenkins is killing it in SL, I hope the best for him on his recovery and comeback to the NBA

John Jenkins -- the latest in a parade of former first round picks the New York Knicks are attempting to revive as part of their rebuild -- brought the house down in Florida last night, dropping a franchise-record 44 points for the Westchester Knicks en route to a 125-104 blowout of the Lakeland Magic.

Jenkins was downright dirty, hitting 13 of 17 shots (including 9 of 10 from three) and adding 4 rebounds and 2 assists. He was a plus-29 on the night, and he broke the previous W-Knicks scoring record of 43 points — set last year by Trey Burke — using an array of moves. His arsenal included almost everything you could ask for, including a long step-back jumper, a nifty floater in the lane, a successful layup that began with Jenkins absorbing contact and then hanging in the air for so long that what he did might be considered human flight, and a Steph Curry-level flurry of three pointers.

It’s been a spectacular start to the season for Jenkins, who is averaging 31.8 points on 54.4 percent shooting (54.8 percent from three!), 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists
through 4 games.
