OT: The New "And1" Button.

OK I've used this button a few times, from the looks of it seems like if you hit it you'll see a point total on that posters bottom part of his quote. Then once you click the counter you can see who agreed/clicked the " And1" button. Pretty sweet.

Question to mods in the know... Was this created to cut down on the old "+1" that we use to put on post when agreeing with someone ?

Yes. There has been a thread about it on the Feedback & Suggestions board. For those of you that have lives and aren't on as often, it started as a very crude "+1" button and has since been refined, mostly at the suggestion of the community on the F&S board.

yeah and the mods are keeping a rough count of people don't use it and put "+1" or something like that and if you do that like 10 times or something your banned

Yes, that's exactly why it was created. Anytime someone quotes a long post and adds a "+1" or "THIS" it stores that entire post + quote in the database. Over time this makes the system slow as data queries take longer, not to mention that browsers have a lot more content to render which increases the page load time in general.

Some people view the "And 1" button as an annoyance, but if it's widely accepted then it'll cut down on all the clutter so that unique posts can be read instead of the same post over and over.

There's still room for improvement though so I think it'll get better in the coming weeks. In particular when you "And 1" a post it currently forces a page refresh, but there are better ways to handle that so that the page doesn't refresh and the count is updated immediately, along with the name of the poster who clicked the button.
