I agree Fielder would have been a big mistake given how much money he got from Detroit. Darvish would have been an excellent signing, though. Texas got a steal. Pitching that good, and that young, is rarely ever available. And for only a 5-6 year commitment at just under $18M/yr.

They should pretty much change the name to "Tommy Jay" surgery.
Royals have had several Tommy John surgeries for their pitching staff. It's not only the Jays, even if it feels that way...

Yeah im sure Canada's Olympic struggles are all because of Toronto
lol wtf? how was there any blame put anywhere? my god there are a lot of sensitive people on here today. no, youre all right, every team a person in toronto might cheer for are the epitome of success and fortune right now. whiny morons.
but lesson learned; next time theres bad news for the jays im just going to think "well at least toronto has a team to cheer for!"

Doesn't seem like anyone is whining but you, taking verbal jabs calling peopls morons for disagreeing with your opinion on Toronto sports, i get it. It must be horrible having so many pro teams compared to any other Canadian city.

its not my fault i live in a major city. i wont apologize for choosing to live here, or for the teams sucking. if you want to live in a city with big league teams, move here. when you get here youll realize that we dont all thank the heavens for allowing us the luxury of simply having teams, and sometimes wish for a bit more.
i mean seriously, your argument is that people in toronto can never complain about their sports teams fates because at least they have teams? what kind of a pathetic, defeatist attitude is that?

Re: Hutchison needs Tommy John; out at least a year
This one hurts. Hutch was already a legitimate 5, and showing signs of being more thanks to his improved velocity. I hope he comes back strong in 2014.
I read an article not too long ago about how Nolan Ryan has decided to work his pitchers harder than in other organisations. They're much less concerned about pitch count and rest. I could be mistaken, but I think Texas has had a much better health track record than most other teams.
At this point I think someone needs to be held accountable. It wouldn't be a shock to see the strength and conditioning staff quietly let go in the offseason.

Never asked for a apology. The Jays don't suck and neither do Canada's Olympic athletes. The Leafs and Raptors surely do, can't say much about the other teams as I don't follow them at all. I won't move to Toronto though , I'm fine where I am cheering for the Sens, Jays and occasional Raptors games.

Pretty sure I never said that. All I said was at least you have a team to cheer for in pretty much every sport and complaining about the Jays and the Olympic athletes after a Hutch surgery announcement is weirdly timed and probably not accurate.
Since Canada isn't expected to dominate the summer Olympics in the first place and the Jays weren't expected to be competing this year anyways.

Just cheer for whichever the opposing team coming to Rogers Center is. There's a Yankee series, that's what you want right? W's? Maybe you should go to their board too.

Re: Hutchison needs Tommy John; out at least a year
I would be interested in seeing a graph of % of pitch types thrown year over year across the league versus number of games missed by pitchers due to injury. Adding in Average velocity of each pitch type might be interesting to add as well. Would there be some correlation?
I also wonder if some pitch types are much less used now than in the past. Fewer Knuckleballers, sidearms, and even the splitter/forkball? I remember the 90's jays broadcasts always talking about Henke, Ward, and Morris throwing the splitter. I don't hear it as much anymore, now it's always cutter, slider, 2 seam, 4 seam, curve, change up.

i said, sarcastically, that the jays were finally healthy and competing for the playoffs. im sorry dyou think that the jays are healthy and competing for the playoffs? and i know a couple of the canadian athletes at the games. i dont think any would be offended if you were aware they didnt compete to their own best. im actually quite sure no one is more aware of it than themselves. im incredibly proud of the ones i know, and the ones i dont, but its naive to think canada cant do better.

the royals board is available for your self-masochism as well. the rest of us will continue to be able to remain fans while pointing out some of the teams misfortunes. perhaps you should go to bluebird banter, its maybe a little more suited to your circle jerk attitude.

Just stop being so spoiled. You have MLB baseball at your doorstep yet you continue to call them a losing team despite not posting a losing record in a while. You clearly have no facts and are just sharing your idiot opinions which nobody cares about.
Here was your argument:
being a sports fan in toronto is great. all the rogers/bell teams are elite, the jays are healthy and finally competing for the playoffs, the bills are stupendous, the argos matter, and canada always has their best athletes come through in the clutch at the olympics.
And you describe that, with this:
Mattd97 wrote:while pointing out some of the teams misfortunes.
While bashing Canadian athletes overall.
It's people like you who I truly believe are going to hell.

ok at this point im convinced youre just trolling. when did i call the jays a losing team? i was reacting to yet another unfortunate injury, in yet another season that we wont contend. so im not sure how that says i dont know my 'facts', so yeah... great point. but yes im spoiled for having teams but still wanting success. and i suppose if you live in vancouver youre spoiled when youre upset about losing the grizzlies cause at least you have the canucks. and i suppose if you live in kingston, youre spoiled if you have a negative thought about the frontenacs last season, because at least you have an OHL team unlike timmins. seriously. just fantastic points.
and then you say you truly believe im going to hell...... for sarcastically saying that canada's olympic team has had quite a few athletes not come through in the clutch? thats not an opinion, thats a fact. and its not an overly harsh one. whitfield got unlucky which caused it, findlay rushed back too early which caused it, mary spencer might simply be past her prime, etc etc -- but theres no doubt that many of our athletes havent performed to their own standards. pretending any different doesnt make you a better person. as i posted earlier, i know several olympic athletes. i know some from my personal life, and i know some from having studied kinesiology and working in the field. i know theyre not satisfied if they dont perform to their abilities. i applied to canada basketball as a lowly paid intern. i coach youth hockey and softball. so continue thinking youre an angel because you set the bar low and pat them on the back when they fall below it.
how all of this came from an off the cuff sarcastic remark about the state of fandom in toronto is mindnumbing. there is very little argument to be made that any toronto franchise has been successful of late, and theres really no reason a joke cant be made about it on a message board when another blow is dealt. but you cant be sure that any negative remark i see you post from here on out will be met with equal disgust for forgetting just how fortunate you are to just have your bluejays take the field.
