It just appears that you are still annoyed that we have him instead of Gallo/Chandler and have decided that you need to come up with reasons to dislike him. It's like whenever you hit a wall, you turn around and continue on a new path until you hit another wall.

Re: Melo is a great passer
Melo is a good to great passer when there is ball movement. But he must demand that his team play that style. Although Team USA is full of stars, they destroy teams with team play. A lot of catch and shoot. Carmelo has benefitted so much from this style of play. He too has been a willing passer on this team.
I know when he comes back to NY that Lebron Durant and CP3 wont be coming with him but he should still bring back that passing game Team USA has. Amare is still a great tool to have at your disposal. Demand that Amare get open. Demand that Novak get open. Demand JR and Shump cut to the basket. Its not about passing the ball, Its demanding that you teammates play in a way that you can share the ball effectively.
Im really hoping the experience helps him sees that.

Huh?
Let's recount - shall we?
1. Someone starts a thread. Titled "Melo is a great passer".
2. I made a jape about it because he's made 4 assists while taking 63 field goal attempts during the Olympics - not a ratio that a great passer ever has.
3. You guys circle the wagons because someone has insulted the Melo.
4. I defend my position.
5. You guys try to make it about me.
Whatever. Good night.
Play time is over.

Re: Melo is a great passer
This whole "iso melo" thing is funny to me. Dude played off the ball until d'antoni ran out of options. He was averaging a career low in scoring. Just like Amare. No one complained.
He assumed the point forward responsibility. He looked decent at it. Until Linsanity hit. And it hit at a time when the key guys were hurt and there was nothing to lose.
Even after that he was still a very willing and skilled passer. Still willing to play off the ball. Even after d'antoni left he continued to be a unselfish player. it wasnt until everyone got hurt late in the season that this whole "iso melo" think started.
But whats messed up is that he had no one to pass to. Everyone was out, hurt, or sick.
This is the biggest issue here. Everyone has a agenda and has taken sides. Either super pro melo or super anti melo.
There are very few who see it for what it is. I was never a carmelo fan. But dude is better than advertised. He is a better rebounder. A better passer. And a better defender than I thought we were getting.
No. He is not Lebron James. But he sure as hell is better than what we had combined.
Thing is this. A lot of people put Carmelo on a level he does not belong. Carmelo is at the top of the B class. Cream of the crop B class. Battling for the lower A class. And even achieving it at times.
Check the hypocrisy now. This is real talk and a wake up call to all you fair weather fans. And if I spelled it wrong then kiss my ass cause im no honor student.
You praise Walsh for making weak trades that give us cap space in exchange for 2 year contracts and a injured player. We gave up good talent in a rush.
You praise walsh for that off season right? Even though we struck the **** out.
But you bash Dolan for us being the winners at the trade dead line.
You praise Glen for finding Lin. Then bash Dolan cause we didnt over pay. After bashing Dolan for what you feel was over paying for Carmelo. And every other player we have brought in.
The truth is this. Most of yall is just unhappy. Period. And this team and this board is just a place to vent. If something good happens you credit who you like. If something bad happens you blame who you hate. Round and round we go.
You hate Dolan for paying Denvers price for Carmelo. Hate Dolan for honoring his extension. Then turn around and hate Dolan for not paying the rockets price on lin. Hate Dolan for not over paying a unproven player who wanted to get paid the same way.

Re: Melo is a great passer
This game showed me that Melo learned a lot from his uncomfortable adjustment to being a point forward in D'Antoni's offense. The Celtics obviously wanted to force Melo to be a passer and he definitely made them pay for that. He doesn't have "phenomenal" court vision, but is a good passer when he keeps his head up and is patient. I'm not expecting a triple double every night, but 5 of those good passes per night would definitely help the team. Having Novak lurking around doesn't hurt either.

KANE
You may not be an honor student, but you are still a very wise man. Love the way you post, love the way you think. We've been on the same page, my man.
I think what you said rings true for a lot of sports fans in general. All across sports, all across America. You see/meet those overly passionate, "die hard" fans throughout your day and wonder why they put so much energy into a professional sports team in the first place. It seems to replace something in their lives. It's an outlet for you to release anger and frustration or to find joy when other things in life are getting you down. To be able to blame other people for mistakes and miscues as if you don't go through the same ups and downs in your own life. To be able to compare yourself to successful people or fans of an opposing team...as a way to compete without actually competing in anything.
Easy to log on the internet and sound like an expert when you're just sitting there at a computer, bullsh(tting about sports. That type of thing is satisfying for a lot of guys.
Funny/sad part is that people like that are so easy to market to. I would bet that the angry, overly critical fan is worth more dollars than a guy like me who accepts that watching Knicks games is nothing more than a leisurely activity.
But keep losing your cookies over Carmelo Anthony and James Dolan, people. Convince yourself that you're right and that the energy you waste on Carmelo is worth it. Keep on keepin on. Someone important will get your message. Someone will care..

Re: Melo is a great passer
If people in this board is expecting him to average 6-7 apg that's insane, that's why the Knicks have playmking PG's in Kidd and Felton. 3-4 apg is what I expect from him.

5 is more like it. 5-6 assists with like 8 rebounds and a FG% of over 45 would be enough to get him into MVP talks and more importantly get this team to 55+ wins.

This is an honest question, not meant in any disrespectful manner...but how many SF's averaged 5 assists or more last season? Matter of fact, how many F's?

He's not shooting anything near 50% so 5/6 assists really isn't asking for too much.

Widen the range, how many players averaged more than 5APG that aren't Point Guards
I'll help you, only Iguodala and Lebron
