AROUND THE NBA (Avoid other teams' trolls - post in here)

Post#1 » by CeltsfanSinceBirth » Thu Aug 9, 2012 5:10 pm

I didn't want to start a thread that said "LAKERS MIGHT BE GETTING DWIGHT", so can we just get a sticky on this thread? I don't want to see threads on every trade rumor not involving the Celtics, plus I don't want to give other teams' fans the ammunition of saying "LOL! THE CELTS BOARD CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT US! LOOK AT THEIR BOARD! THEY FEAR US!".

Ok, let's get on with it:

The latest Dwight rumor has him going to LA, but the Lakers lose Pau AND Bynum. I think that actually hurts them more than it helps them.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--lakers--magic-in-blockbuster-four-team-trade-talks-to-send-dwight-howard-to-l-a-.html;_ylt=AtExQR_bcjfhdwP6UmYgAC28vLYF;_ylu=X3oDMTN1YXIwOTU1BG1pdANGRUFUVVJFRCBNZWdhdHJvbiBOQkEEcGtnAzNjNWZhZDA2LTVjYzUtMzRjZC05M2EwLTFlNGI2NDBlZmFlMQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDbWVnYXRyb24EdmVyA2Y3NzNlNzgzLWUyNDMtMTFlMS1hZjdiLTBiMDFiMTc3YzI4YQ--;_ylg=X3oDMTFoNjVvZWVyBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANuYmEEcHQDc2VjdGlvbnM-;_ylv=3

There are multiple moving parts in the fluid talks, but the framework of a possible deal includes Howard and Denver forward Al Harrington going to the Lakers, Philadelphia guard Andre Iguodala going to the Nuggets, Los Angeles center Andrew Bynum moving to the 76ers, and Los Angeles forward Pau Gasol and Denver guard Arron Affalo going to the Magic, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

EDIT: Thanks for the sticky. I'll change the topic from time to time to reflect the latest "news" in the NBA.

Wow 76ers would be scary if they added Bynum.. I still do not get the deal from Orlando aspect.. Why would you want a player like Gasol.. Their new GM is rumored to say that he wants to model OKC so Affalo would fit that bill, very underrated SG..

Denver would have a logjam of Sf with Gallo, Chandler, and Iggy.. Unless they slide Chandler over to the 2..

Sixers having a great offseason if they got Bynum, I had them bottom 5 in the East before this news came up, not anymore if this actually happens.

Denver also get's a good deal out of this.

Lakers doesn't look better, Kobe wouldn't pass Shaq the ball, how Will he at age 35 change his game and suddenly play off the ball ?

Howard isn't better than Bynum is. Harrington is a Joke. So are the Orlando Tragic.

Don't understand that myself. The combination of Pau and Bynum is what makes the Lakers special.

Maybe they put Chandler or Gallo in the trade instead of Afflalo. Gallo for Iggy is pretty fair IMO.

Maybe Denver is planning on going small, Gallo at the 4, Iggy at the 3, have Iggy and Chandler get time at the 2 as well...

I don't get it really for Orlando. Assuming they'd flip Gasol, they'd also have to be dumping some bad contracts and getting picks here as they go in for a full rebuild. Of course, if Dwight is going to sign an extension in LA, it seems like returning value should go up. Of all four teams, from this "framework" it seems to me that Orlando is clearly getting the worst end of this.

I'm guessing they could always turn around and flip Gasol to the Rockets for Scola and a couple of their young players (Royce White or Lamb?).

Pau Gasol will sell tickets, jerseys and win you some games. Dude is still a gamer. But I agree. You trade one of the best defensive bigs the NBA has ever seen and I'd hope you would get more than Pau. Not sure Afflalo is the the guy..which is why I think maybe Gallo is the one leaving. Gallo and Pau for Dwight seems very fair. Gallo for Iggy is also fair so I'm sure Denver wouldn't mind.

No way the Lakers are giving up both Bynum and Gasol for Howard. Lakers are NEVER on the losing end of a trade.

Oh shoot! That's right! Completely forgot. My bad.

In that case, if Houston still wanted Gasol, then it would be a straight salary dump from Orlando, due to the fact that the Rockets would be able to absorb more than 1 bad contract.

Well, I'd like Gasol and Gallo a little better from Orlando's perspective, but if Gallo and Iggy is an even swap, I'm not sure why Denver would want to bother. Seems like lateral move, O for D. I guess if Orlando can swap Gasol out for multiple picks and/or prospects and get a couple picks on the original deal, or send out some onerous contracts, that works. Not sure Houston is the team though to help them get it done. Is Pau the missing piece for them now? I don't really know, though.

The Lakers become very beatable if this trade goes down. Kobe's defense against Rondo isn't any different than what other teams play, but for some odd reason, Kobe gets praised for it. It's not Kobe that makes his "I'm going to dare you to shoot a jumper" defense so effective. It's Pau and Bynum guarding the hoop that makes Rondo tentative to drive to the hole. If they put Dwight in there, KG can just hang out by the baseline to draw him out, thus clearing a path for Rondo. I'm pretty damn sure Antawn Jamison/Al Harrington aren't coming in to block/alter Rondo's shot.

I'm hoping it goes through today, before Kobe has a chance to realize that they're getting swindled and kills the trade.

Start Iggy at the 2, and Chandler at the 3?

If I was Magic I'd iniate talks with Kings, try to get Cousins and Robinson/Reke.

We're looking at this as a "bad trade" because we're so unaccustomed to seeing a fair trade involving the Lakers.

Seems like the Magic are just having a backbone about trading Dwight. The concept of "trade him to us for scraps OR ELSE YOU'LL GET NOTHING" is nothing but a bullying tactic. Trade him for a good return or let him leave as a FA - he doesn't have many good options for free agency destinations anyway. Remember - Cleveland got a better return in trade for LeBron than Memphis got for Gasol.

Return to Boston Celtics
