that was exactly my first thought, too. "crap, rice won't be ready."
impossible to say how this will work out. production has never been his problem, naturally. he still had it in 2010 with cinci, and he reportedly ran a 4.45 today.
i guess we'll make sportscenter a little more often......?

Re: training camp 2012
^^well there has been numerous Seahawk on ESPN sightings.
Also Flynn and Wilson this week... seems logical that Pete's statement about knowing Tjack is true, but next week how does he order them? To me that will be the big tell. I read some articles on Seahawks.net stating that both Browner and Kam have individually supported because of his advanced deception, lookoffs, and quick progression reads.

You left out your subject but I'm guessing it was Flynn.
Browner was on KJR a day or two ago. When asked about Flynn he was complimentary and noted that he liked the deception and the reads. When asked about Tarvaris [and whether he looked better since he was healthy] he said he was Tarvaris with little else to say about the matter. He also kept saying it was '2 QB race'...don't know which of the three he was dropping off, but since he talked about Tarvaris and Flynn but not Wilson, that's probably easy to figure out.

Dang looks like we are about to get punished by the league again... stupid rule imo-
per Sando:
Seahawks: Owens signed Monday, meetings Tuesday, was in pads Wednesday. Team acknowledges TO should not have been in pads Wednesday.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest
No word yet from the Seahawks on a report suggesting the team might have violated rules by working Owens into practice too quickly. League spokesman Greg Aiello said the NFL was gathering facts on the matter. The rule, according to Aiello: "Players have a 3-day acclimation period after reporting during the preseason. Day 1 is for the physical and meetings. Day 2 and 3 the player may participate, but only in helmet and shells or a padded shirt. Day 4 and for the rest of camp is in full pads." Owens appeared to wear shoulder pads Wednesday, which would have been his second day with the team, assuming he signed Tuesday.

Boy am I excited to see Bruce Irvin take the field tomorrow. So far Shea Mclellin and Quentin Coples have looked pretty good...against second team offenses. There's something about seeing Mclellin in that Bears uniform and watching his speed off the edge that really impressed me.

Wow...first play from scrimmage is a Brandon Browner pick six off Hass. WOW!!! Kind of a fluke play but still a hell of a heads up job by Browner and Earl Thomas.

Re: training camp 2012
Anyone else watch the game? My thoughts...
Flynn looked good. Not great, but good. He's accurate and worked the middle of the field. Didn't take a shot downfield all game. His poise was decent although he took a couple sacks he could've handled a bit better; He waited too long and held onto the ball instead of simply getting rid of it. Used his RB outlets and TE well. Get him some starting WR and Lynch, call a less conservative game plan, and we'll see what he can do. Threw a bad pick in the middle of the field on a pass he probably regretted throwing the minute it left his hand.
Russell Wilson [against 2nd/3rd string players] showed why getting excited about Josh Portis last season was an overreaction. You want to see a young QB prospect? THAT was a performance. Every time Wilson rolled out I was excited to see what he was going to do, and he rarely disappointed. Impressed with his ability to use play-action effectively, and he broke off two long runs [one designed, one not so much] where he was just an absolutely weapon in open space. Also threw a bad pick in the end zone on a pass that wasn't a bad idea...it was just thrown to the wrong spot of the endzone.
People want to compare him to Brees due to the height issue, but I don't think that's an accurate comparison. Brees can survive in the pocket and I am not sure how well Wilson will do in the pocket on a consistent basis, but there's no way in hell Brees peels off two 30 yard runs.
Given what Flynn and Wilson showed, there's just no reason for the team to settle on Tarvaris Jackson as a starter this year. I fully believe the team should name Flynn the starter; I believe he will succeed, but if he fails miserably, then Wilson's waiting in the wings.
The starting offensive line looked SO much better this year than they did during the pre-season last year. That unit has really come together, although some of the depth we have on the outside [Barron, Omiyale] looked less than stellar.
Braylon Edwards look like a men amongst boys on a jumpball thrown by Russell Wilson. He jockeyed for position, ripped the ball out of the air, and rolled in for a TD. I'm super excited to see him paired with T.O. I know some people think it's one or the other, but apparently Schneider's said that T.O. can play Z and the slot, while Edwards is just an X receiver. If Rice isn't healthy, then let's see Edwards at X, T.O. at Z, and Tate/Baldwin in the slot.
Speaking of WR, Charly Martin probably doesn't have much of a chance to make the roster but he made some nice catches and blocked well downfield. Kris Durham was a non-factor, except when he dropped a pass on a comeback route he should've caught. He's running out of time.
The LB corps had its moments. Wagner flashed potential, Toomer showed his speed, as did Morgan. They're young but I think there's potential there. If nothing else, we should have a strong ST unit.
Jeremy Lane looked inexperienced but full of potential. Byron Maxwell looked a step slow and mostly horrible. Irvin looked quick and active but seemed to over pursue a bit.

Nice recap. Here's some quick reflections before I read yours.
1) See ya Tarvaris

2) Not until I see Flynn throw downfield will I be able to make a judgment about him; he was good, but too conservative for my tastes
3) Russel Wilson was flat out exciting; he may not be our starter this year, but is the #2 guy in the wings
4) Farwell looks like a good special teams player and back up
5) Bruce Irvin has got to learn that spin move to the inside so that he's doesn't merely rely on beating a guy around the edge; there were a few times whereby if he could have turned his rush inward he could have been closer to getting there
6) I like Turbin for a back-up runner more than Forsett; he impressed me at times
7) The OL was a little weak on pass protection for Flynn
8) I like Wagner; won't lament the loss of Hawthorne
9) Our defensive pursuit is going to be fun to watch this year
10) Nice grab by Edwards
11) I feel so much better about our QB situation now; I have some real hope now
I said a bunch of times here last year that the Seahawks should draft 2 QB's in the draft, load up there, try to make something happen, luck happen if need be. The QB position was too important to not give it heavy weight this past off-season.
I'm glad the Hawks listened to me.

Anyway...enjoyed the game if for no other reason than to see 2 new QB's who might potentially work for us. That in itself was enough to make me feel good about tonight's game.

Re: training camp 2012
I forgot to make any mention of Greg Scruggs, who was very active in the backfield. Clare Farnsworth had a pretty good recap of the havoc wreaked:
Eventually, yes...but not yet. I see a lot of fans on blogs and Twitter saying 'cut him now!' but that's a bit ridiculous. There's still preseason games to play, still time for injuries to occur...if he makes the roster as the #3 QB I wouldn't be too upset about it.
Agreed. He didn't do anything that screamed "this guy's going to be a star" but he looked solid, especially as a pass catcher. Leon Washington also showed a good burst out of the backfield.
Rookie defensive lineman Gregg Scruggs. On the first two plays of the quarter, Scruggs teamed with Pierre Allen for a 5-yard sack and then teamed with Jaye Howard to drop Jamie Harper for a 3-yard loss on third down. His efforts forced rookie Will Batson to punt from just inside the back line of the end zone, and he got off a 29-yarder that went out of bounds. That set up Hauschka’s 40-yard field goal that gave the Seahawks a 20-17 lead. Scruggs later tripped up Darius Reynaud for a 4-yard loss, forcing the Titans to try a 36-yard field that sailed wide left with 4:46 to play.

Re: training camp 2012
It's early in the season, and I'm blathering, but I've got Seahawks on the brain right now.
Quarterbacks (3) : Matt Flynn, Russell Wilson, Tarvaris Jackson
Comment: For reasons stated earlier, I think Flynn should be the guy going forward. Wilson's potential is certainly exciting, but...there's no rush.
Running backs (4) : Marshawn Lynch, Robert Turbin, Leon Washington, Michael Robinson
Comment: I know JS likes Kregg Lumpkin, but I don’t see him beating out Michael Robinson for the starting FB gig. Nor do I see the team carrying two FB. Robinson looks absolutely massive now, and he’s a leader. Cutting him for Lumpkin would likely be horribly unpopular, and if the team’s willing to take chances on guys like T.O. they need a strong locker room.
Wide receivers (6): Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate, Terrell Owens, Braylon Edwards, Ricardo Lockette
Comment: Questionable to keep 6 WR when none of them are special teams guys, but I like the collection of talent. Lockette’s too intriguing to cut loose, even if his hands need work. A stable of tall, athletic WR who can make plays isn’t a bad thing, and T.O./Edwards would provide insurance for Rice in case he’s not healthy.
Tight ends (3): Zach Miller, Kellen Winslow, Jr., Anthony McCoy,
Comment: Miller and Winslow are the offensive weapons, and McCoy’s the blocker. Pretty straightforward.
Offensive line (10): Russell Okung, Max Unger, John Moffitt, Breno Giacomini, Paul McQuistan, Allen Barbre, Lemuel Jeanpierre, Duece Lutui, JR Sweezy, Frank Omiyale
Comment: The starters seem locked in barring any health issues. I don't really like Omiyale as a backup tackle, but Barron's problem with penalties and pass protection make him undesirable to me.
Total offense: 26
Defensive line (9): Chris Clemons, Brandon Mebane, Alan Branch, Red Bryant, Bruce Irvin, Greg Scruggs, Jason Jones, Jaye Howard, Clinton McDonald
Comment: I’m going extremely young here with the depth, as I think that’s the plan. There’s not a lot of age on this roster at this position other than the 1st stringers.
Linebackers (6): Leroy Hill, Matt McCoy, K.J. Wright, Korey Toomer, Bobby Wagner, Mike Morgan.
Comment: This is tricky...here’s where we need some ST depth, but not at the expense of the starting 3.
Defensive backs (9): Marcus Trufant, Brandon Browner, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Jeron Johnson, Jeremy Lane, Winston Guy, Phillip Adams
Comment: One of the best starting 4 you can find in the league. Trufant should flourish as a nickel back/depth, and the youngsters look promising.
Total defense: 24
Specialty (3): Jon Ryan, Steven Hauska, Clint Gresham
PUP: James Carpenter, Walter Thurmond

Besides the preseason game where he tore it up, how is Turbin looking? I watched him play at USU for the past few years and think you guys drafted a stud! I'm excited to see how he fits into your team and most of all I want to see him get some playing time. I think he will surprise a lot of people with his ability to break long runs. You don't arm tackle him

He's doing very well so far. Getting a lot of chances in the preseason. He runs tough, but also has just enough speed-burst and shiftiness to exploit opportunities that develop during a play. He's also proven early on to be a decent pass receiver out of the backfield, though I'll need to see more of this.
In three preseason games he's already earned the 2nd half-back position, and a guy that seems is going to get a lot of carries spelling for Lynch thins season. I like him a lot so far.
