The poster you quoted was talking about even SG don't rack rack up 5 dimes often.

But why compare Jordan and Kobe to Melo?

nobody in the right frame of mind holds that standard for Melo.

@Thugger, 3rd=Melo.

A. I thought you were done?
B. We are talking championship for this team in the next three years. It's useful to look at past champs to see where you have to set the bar.

So Melo is supposed to become MJ or prime Kobe? Gotcha.

So the bar is set at two of the greatest of all times?

Melo might as well retire if that's the standard he has to reach.

I can put up stats for Lebron, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson et al... If you are going to be an NBA champion you are going to be the best. That's the way it works.

For Carmelo to achieve that he has to become better - I don't get how that is such a dig. Are you guys really this **** sensitive?

If you want to look at a past champion to set the bar for a SF, look no further than Paul Pierce, whom many have already compared Melo to. You're being completely ridiculous if you're expecting Melo to perform as if he were a top 10 GOAT.

But he's never going to be those players. You might as well give him a fighting chance and compare him to players that are similar to him.

It's not sensitivity, it's being realistic, and actually insulting to a conversation.

Melo isn't in those guys leagues, but they aren't the only champions either.

I think he can be as good as Kobe. But his main problem to me is that he can't see himself. He gets asked a question about being selfish and he blames Linsanity.

Everybody get criticized - it's the nature of the game. But the best are able to hear the criticisms and learn from it.

btw... what NBA champion should we be comparing him to?

Sensitive towards what? Comparing Melo to Jordan actually shows how stupid this board gets.

When he won the championship he averaged 4.5 assists a game and only took 14 fga. While Melo is close to that, in terms of assists, he would still need to improve.

But I think Melo should set his ceiling higher than Paul Pierce.

It's an answer to a direct question - how many shooting guards average 5 assists?
