New Orleans was controlled by the league; the teams involved in this trade aren't controlled by the other owners.

This and no way does stern want the Dwightnmare go on.

Why do people keep praising the Laker GM ? He did what any of us in this forum would do and thats trade an inferior player for a better player.

If you want to buy anyone a drink buy the other General Managers involved in this travesty. They enabled this to go down.

Wrong, over half of you would have caved and given up Gasol and Howard last year. It took Mitch Kupchak's resolve and foresight to remain patient until the right deal came along. But whatever...

Well let's hope this new version of the Lakers fab 4 do better than the 2004 one.

Now I look at it, even the positions are exactly the same between those two, what a coincidence.

As for the protection on the picks, every team in the discussion outside of the Magic are in the playoffs for the foreseeable future. The Nets could have only traded 1st rounders every other year, meaning it would take 7 years for those 4 picks to transfer. In all likelyhood the Magic will get 3 1st round picks in the next 5 years, and reportedly a 2nd or 2, plus they get a guy who was just drafted, and a couple of other prospects. So how is the deal better again?

So you wouldn't want a Nets pick in 7 years (seriously looking at our roster now), than a Nuggets/Sixers pick in 5 years (Who will most likely be doing better than the Nets would be in 7 years)?

Lopez can be traded for valuable assets in the future if the Magic really wanted cap relief. It's not impossible. Why did they re-sign Jameer to that contract if they're tanking and want cap relief? The team has/had no direction.

And what prospects? Only prospect I see that may be good is Harkless, other than that you have MarShon Brooks who is proven to be a very good and crafty scorer....than Christian Eyenga. Anything I'm missing, sensei?

I ain't even mad though. It's not even "being bitter" it's just wild bewilderment.

What GM is going to trade a superstar for assets 7 years from now? they will no longer have a job, most gms get about 5 years or so before they are run out of town if the team is not moving in the right direction.

Also if Lopez has another foot injury, who is going to trade for him on a max deal? And what kind of contract do you think you will get back? Get real the Magic spent 7 years paying Grant Hill max money while he had surgery every year on his bad ankle, you really think the Magic want a replay of that for a guy who is overpaid if healthy?

As for the Nuggets pick, what kind of protection do you think they have on it? Odds are it will be the 1st pick they get next year, the 76ers in 3 years, and the Lakers in 5 years. Plus now the rumors are out they get the Warriors 2nd round pick next year, which I would easily place more value on then a pick 7 years from now.

You may have missed Vucevic, the young big they got, while not great last year he put up something like 5 and 5 in less thn 16 mpg which is not bad for a 20 year old Euro rookie, while he may not be a world beater he has a chance to be pretty good, and he is healthy. Eyenga is also a decent enough player, I have seen him several times, and he can be a rotation guy for several teams.

But I could see why it would cause bewilderment, I mean a gm looking out for his job, and an owner not willing to just take huge risks regardless of the cost to him or the franchise.

Fair enough.

As long as they do not fashion themselves after the Fantastic Four, using a Triangle Offense, as that may lead to Pau being relegated to the role of the Invisible Woman.

But since their converting to The Princeton Offense next season, they should be fine.

Not when you consider all the other pieces. Bynum for Howard alone is a lateral move at best, add in Duhon's contract and the loss of Christian Eyenga and this was a highway robbery. We'll be lucky to get HC in the first round.

Brian K. Schmitz ‏@MagicInsider
Lakers fans, welcome to your Dwightmare. All season Howard will hold you in suspense about re-signing. Would he dare tell Kobe "no"?

Especially when they traded away Andrew Bynum, who was just starting to develop that smooth stroking 3pt shot.

The NBA when I really think about it, is very much similar to the natural order of things in the animal kingdom. Orlando had a young offspring in Dwight, that they raised and tended to so well over the years, and now he will be consumed by the natural predator in the jungle, and become part of a greater plan. And the Lakers in turn, have restored Orlando and placed them in a good position to get another # 1 Draft pick, and continue the cycle one more time potentially, for the next culling.
