Could ALL FIVE Atlantic Div. Teams Go to the Playoffs?

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Tue Aug 7, 2012 3:56 am

The more I think about it, our division might make some history this year.

I can't imagine ever before having a single NBA division getting all five of its teams into the postseason. Call me crazy, but I think all 5 teams have a real shot:

BOSTON - The incumbent, until someone unseats them. Also, they got better this offseason

BROOKLYN - The nouveau riche, until we earn some stripes. The most potent offense in the division, but the defense will need to improve from last year to break through.

NEW YORK - The big ? Lots of rearranging deckchairs on their roster, but overall, I feel NYK got worse and more expensive this offseason. If they could ever get their frontcourt to maximize each others' strengths...

PHILADELPHIA - The riddle. Losing Williams and Meeks shouldn't hurt this deep backcourt, especially with the Nick Young addition. But how are PHI's young, finesse-heavy frontcourt going to fare without Elton Brand? The Doug Collins self-sabotage hourglass is running out of sand...

TORONTO - The whipping boy, or are they? Lowry is a game-changer for them IMO, and they are simply too talent-laden not to challenge for a seed. Remember, they still have some of the best trade assets (capspace, expirings, prospects and picks) on the market, and the TDL projects to be seller-saturated. Add Rudy Gay or even Luol Deng to this mix and you have a dangerous squad.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

Barring major injuries I only see the Celtics,Knicks and Nets as playoff locks. Philly will challenge for a 7th or 8th seed but I'm not sure about Toronto. I like Lowry a lot and he'll impact that team , no doubt, but overall I see other teams ahead of them. It's not completely out of the question and I think the Raptors are gonna be in the playoff hunt but I think they'll ultimately end up 10th or so. I could see Milwaukee being better than them and the Heat and Pacers are playoff locks as well.Despite Rose's injury and the departure of Korver,Asik and Watson I find it hard to believe that the Bulls would drop out of the playoffs completely.

Voted for 3. Philly might challenge the 7th/8th spot & Toronto will improve, but both will fall short...

I agree that Lowry is a gamechanger for them, and Valenciunas could make his own impact..
But they're still a long shot

And amnestying Brand is going to detrimental to the Sixers season, I think they just miss it...

Bottom 5 record in the league.

Brooklyn, Boston, and New York all should make it. Toronto has potential to be a 7th/8th seed and Philly? No comment lol.

Uhhh sixers fans:

You lost Igoudala, Vucevic, Lou Williams and Brand and you gained Bynum, Brown and Young. You didn't exactly improve this offseason, you know.

Bynum is gonna get exposed as the first option.

please do some research. we replaced igoudala with dorrel wright and jason richardson, we replaced lou williams with nick young, we never played vucevic, we gained bynum, the second best center in the league, and kwame, strengthening our only position where we had no defensive presence despite our top 3 defense in the league. and if by exposed you mean triple teamed thats fine because wright young and jrich will be raining threes all day

The Sixers are still the Sixers. A treadmill team with an indifferent / fairweather fanbase.

I like the fit of their pieces better this year but talent wise they're at best not that different from last year.

Also lettuce b reel... Jason Richardson is no longer a difference maker.

Ohhh Dorrell Wright and Jason Richardson!! How could I forget those two? You'll obviously be fighting for the #1 seed now!

Dorrell Wright was so terrible last year that the GSW's who desperately want a starting caliber SF, traded him away for a backup PG. Jason Richardson is known as a bad contract nowadays and hasn't been relevant since Steve Nash made him look like an adequate basketball player. You downgraded TERRIBLY at the 2 and 3 this off season. I'd even rather have Jodie Meeks over Nick Young.

And say goodbye to that #3 defense. Your best wing defender was just traded you know... and it's not like Bynum is this defensive guru at Center either... he played defense every other game while with the Lakers and you can expect him to give even less effort on that end of the ball now that he'll have a bigger role on offense.
