The Lakers start their $5 billion tv deal next season. Kobe is the most marketable guy the franchise has ever had, league has had since Jordan as well. Dwight sells big. Nash appeals to a whole country, same with Pau. Ron even reaches the hood. The Lakers running a business as their commodites pay for themselves which is the big difference between maxing out Bynum and payign that tax over getting Dwight for the max and paying it

At this point luxury tax for the lakers doesn't matter. they will make it up with this roster. Howard will bring in more money in deals and marketing than the tax. Lakers are very smart and yes you have to give props to their front office for total domination of the league and the rest of the gms. But this is why the nba doesn't do as well as football.

There are 28 teams now that don't have a chance to win a championship for at least 5 years, maybe more.

Yes kobe, nash and gasol are older and kobe and nash will probably retire in the near future but it's a two team race between the lakers and the heat. forget okc they now have no chance.

the rest of the league is irrelevant.

We have by far, without a doubt, the most despicable disgusting athletes in the world. They are all scum. And now they're just cherry picking playing with other elite players so they don't ever have to compete or be the leader of the team. They'll never be another Jordan, hell they'll never be another Kobe because Kobe would go play with Tim Duncan and Shaq as they force each other onto the team of their choice with no repercussions.

I really hate the NBA, and I without a doubt hate it's "stars". We're a no salary cap away from that trash sport of baseball.

It might be time to start watching hockey and football during the winter.

Despicable? Disgusting? They are all scum?

Dude you have bigger psychological issues to deal with in your life to be worrying about basketball right now.

Jordan wanted out from the Bulls before they got good. Then when they were good he was getting paid 30+ million which was twice as much as any other team could offer so he wasn't going to leave then either. Put him on a bad team in this era and he would be whining everyday about it.

damn ... If only Nash were 32 again, then you guys could really have something to complain about.

As for now, it will all be over in a few years. Don't panic.

OKC still has a chance lol. Their big 4 (Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka) are only getting better while the Lakers will be getting worse. LAL might be better presently, but it will definitely not take OKC 5 years to catch them. Maybe 3 at MAX. Once Kobe and Nash retire, the west will belong entirely to OKC for the foreseeable future. I just don't see Harden leaving OKC for a max deal on a worse team, although Ibaka could do anything.

Also does anyone know if Dwight committed to signing an extension?

And then people will complain that they can't keep their team together for more than one season.

Not just big market teams. The Thunder and Spurs would have to break up their teams.

:lol: At Ron reaches the hood. It's true though lol. But Kobe is by far the most popular player in the NBA and his marketability factor is through the roof. Dwight has a great personality before all this drama, so i'm sure he'll be loved by the fans of Lakers, who have the most fans in the world. I read on Forbes that the new tv deal will bring in 200 million annually. So the luxury tax for just 1 or 2 years until Kobe and Gasol's contract comes off the books won't be too bad.

Lakers with Dwight become immediately the candidate for the tittle. Let's hope this doesn't come true

You mean Lakers got a ridiculously unfair roster move based on extenuating circumstances and market desire rather than good management and acquiring assets? no way!

Does that include KG, Paul Pierce and Rondo?

Orl traded howard for a SG who is older than howard, and a 32 year old PF? So they got older and didnt get much cap relief?

How is this trade better than getting houston's 3 picks this year?

This comes from a Celtics fan. So when the Celtics had teams like in the 80s, when Pierce, Allen and KG joined it was all good... But not now. Now it's the bad times!

Superstars are playing toghether in teams? Where did I see that? Jordan + Pippen + Rodman + PJ; Shaq + Kobe + PJ; LeBron + Wade + Bosh; Pierce + Allen + KG; Magic + Kareem + Worthy; Bird + Parish + McHale; Hakeem + Barkley + Drexler...

Is it serious only nowadays that stars join toghether?

Another thing: since 2002 we have had A LOT of contenders:
- New Jersey Nets;
- Lakers;
- Heat;
- Dallas;
- Boston;
- Chicago;
- San Antonio;
- Minnesota;
- Pistons;
- Cleveland;
- Phoenix Suns;
. Orlando...

So you see, there isn't really a problem with teams contending. It changes fast.

Harrington's is unguaranteed. Afflalo can be moved easily. The same can't be said of Lopez.

What you say is true, but if Orlando wanted nothing in return they should have let him rot on the bench this season. Three lottery protected picks are a joke, what do they expect to draft with those picks? Afflalo is no franchise player and Harrington wont help them...

Move Afflalo to ___ for ___? You wont get something special in return for that guy.

Orlando should have dumped Hedo and his WTF-contract in that trade, then I would consider this deal somewhat acceptable.

You dont hand the Lakers the keys to the championship, improve two other teams in the same trade and gut your own roster without addind valuable assets at the same time.
