It was just SUCH an opportune scenario for LA that they had to pounce. Dwight's impending UFA status killed his value to all but a few teams...the teams he had dictated he would be amenable to signing with after the season. Therefore, Bynum becomes fair value for him, although it wasn't even the Magic who got that fair value. It was Philly, who got a steal.

But the Lakers are also willing to take the risk of losing Bynum for an unsigned Dwight because they know they have an enticing enough situation for Dwight to stay. Thats where the championship pedigree, already being a contender this year, and the appeal of being a superstar celebrity living in LA come into effect.

On the other hand, they could still move Gasol for a servicable PF and an upgrade at SF.

Or they could get minimum guys and go with the theory that Gasol's versatile offensive game and ability to play C offsets his defensive weakness, so roll with it.
we have this 6'7 250 lbs dude named Metta World Peace... who defends 3s pretty well.

but yeah, we're better off with Al Freaking Harrington defending Durant and LeBron, yup. You're right.

You didn't watch the year KG and Ray Allen joined the Celtics? Sucks, you really missed out on a good one.

Ray Allen was older at this point and making a lot of money. I wouldn't consider it lopsided. The Lakers acquiring Shaq, Kobe, Gasol, and Howard are all lopsided. The Lakers have benefitted from 4 very lopsided acquisitions in the last 20 years, and the Celtics have benefitted from 1. Nice try.

While Ron's brother isn't the guy to go to for trades, he does know what's going on with his brother. He recently stated that Ron is at 237 with 5% body fat and is in incredible shape. Let's just wait and see.

Why do you guys have such bad GM? You should really look into pressuring the organization to replace him. Not befitting of the winningest franchise in NBA history you know. Red Auerbach would be rolling over in his grave.

Josh Robbins ‏@JoshuaBRobbins
Chris Duhon tells the @OrlandoSentinel he is definitely included in the proposed four-team trade.

Artest looked really bad last season. He's in the fast decline. Harrington is a (tiny) bit younger, fewer miles on him, and at this point quicker.

Are you aware that Harrington is a tweener who cannot defend 3s ? he's a worse version of Beasely.

No contender would start that guy, even next to Howard. I have no idea were you are getting this idea that he is quick.

Also when you ad a defensive anchor like Howard, Gasol becomes a luxury, nobody in their right mind would split up such a front court.

He's actually a better version of Beasley, but you're right. Hes more fitting as a 6th man and MWP is much more suited to defend 3's.

You honestly cannot dream up a better frontcourt tandem than Gasol and Howard.

Gasol might not even suit up for the rest of the Olympic games at this point. He and Kobe are in Mallorca popping champagne bottles like Chris Bosh.

I don't notice too many teams benefitting from lopsided acquisitions in recent years. The Celtics play in a market that's not too large and have colder weather. That hurts them for free agency compared to a few teams. The Lakers have benefitted the most and Miami has also benefitted. Most other teams haven't benefitted from lopsided acquisitions too much, so the Celtics aren't very different from the average team. I'm happy with Ainge personally.

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
Pick details 4 Orlando in Howard trade: future first from Philly (w/protection), lower of Denver's 2 firsts (NY) in '14, Lakers' 2017 first.

I'll be happy for Nash when he gets his ring. Maybe he can get a finals MVP as well (if the voters get off of Kobe's rep, that is).

That's too bad. You guys should really be aiming for the Mitch Kupchak level of GM's. My condolences.

Is the Lakers first in 2017 protected? Who knows, maybe they'll be in rebuild/tank mode by then
In seriousness, thats prbly exactly what the Magic are hoping for if the pick is unprotected.

By than Kobe/Gasol/Nash will be retired. But knowing LA and the tons of cap space they have in 2014/2015 they will get another star or two to play with Dwight (if he stays and doesn't bolt for Dallas)

Kevin Love is going to LA in 2015, they're gonna sign one more max player after that but I'm not sure who yet.
