For those who are saying the Magic got killed in this trade, think outside the box. The Magic needed to rehabilitate their image for the future. No matter how much immediate cap room they would have had, no one was coming to play here after this fiasco. Orlando is now seen as a cancer by many players as well as media members for some odd reason. The only way they can rehab their image was by doing this trade. They will have their own lottery pick in 2013 and 2014, and Philly's protected pick in 2014 or 2015. They will also have Harkless, Nicholson, Aflallo and 30 million plus in cap room- enough for two max deals. Those lottery picks will hopefully yield some excellent players (obviously there is a risk involved). The trade enables the Magic to spend two years making Orlando a desirable place to play again, (new arena, no state income tax, great schooling, Disney, and great weather) while also keeping them financially flexible. ANY other deal, including the Rockets and Nets would have prevented this. The Nets deal was useless because the Magic want long-term flexibility and investing in a max deal for Lopez is committing to mediocrity; the Magic were not winning a championship with him as center. The picks? Assuming they would be great, the picks would be anywhere from 25-30- not a recipe for success. As far as the Rockets deal goes, I do not believe for a second that the deal that is being reported is the one that was offered. They were not willing to take back every contract the Magic had. Most likely, they were taking Duhon and J-Rich. The only difference is that the Magic would have had Toronto's protected pick. Harkless was loved by the Magic scouting and worked out with OKC when Hennigan was running their draft in April, May, and June.. I think this deal was bound to not yield a fair return for a superstar center. Because of that, I am satisfied with this deal. Within 2-3 years, Magic will be competitive once again. For those who are judging this deal when the assets don't even mature till about 2017, you don't know basketball. Think NO is a better place to play today because Anthony Davis is there? I think so. Last year, it was the cancer of the NBA. Just sad that RDV might not be around to see this success..As for Dwight Howard, hope he is satisfied with being 4th offensive option on team...Then again, he can always just go into marketing.
