Harold Ellis is a little old no?

I said it when Henny got hired I'd give him 3 years. And I think going into that 3rd year it'll be reasonable to start expecting playoffs. 2 years of top 5 draft picks most likely, then a summer with big time cap space. 2014-2015 season here we come!

I'm going to give it 3 years as well. We're going to need a lottery selection in 2013 and 2014 and then a year to acclimate those guys. I'm looking at 2015.

You guys are nuts... Unless we get the best player in one of those two drafts it will take 5 years to get back.

Washington did it in 3. Wall, then the Euro big, then Beal. Plus used cap space and a couple other assets to get some decent guys.

I hope the Magic can swing some more talent, but I think 3 years to make the playoffs and get this thing headed in the right direction is very reasonable

*Edit:
Granted they had a bunch of crappy seasons before that as well. But they hired a new GM and started the retool about 3 years ago

That's what I'm hoping for. Bulls and Thunder did it in 3.

Was doesn't have a bright future. Wall is good but not a star, and Vesley sucks... Beal does look like a stud though.

Ya but the question was playoffs. So I think 3 years is realistic to expect playoff basketball in Orlando again. And I do hope we get better pieces through the draft then Washington did

I just hope Harkless or Nicholson turn out to be real starter material or this season will be unbearable to watch.

Shame on your FO. I feel bad for you guys, NO cap room or assets. all the other trades that were being mentioned had a much better return for you, but your GM goes with affalo and 3 picks in the 20s. this is disgusting.

I think it would be wise to see how the next draft goes before predicting the timing of future playoff appearances.

I am not trolling, I just can't believe Orlando agreed to this disgusting trade.

There may have been better trades mentioned, but the one involving the Cavs was not one of them. Go back to your board.

I think a super lotto/young-studs core in place supercedes any set timetable of 3 yrs or whatever. I mean it depends on lotto position and the luck of if the draft is good or the draft hits are right on. If we get a franchise top 1 pick, I see a 2-3 yr lotto window only. A couple great top 5 picks could be a 3-4 yr window. I most definitley do not want to settle on a Jennings, Wall, Curry talent with trying for the playoffs right after. That's too soon, I want 2-3 really great, legit all stars. Would I put an under on the over/under of an OKC Durant/Westbrook/Harden and SAS Robinson/Duncan combo? Yes I would but more recently OKC got that core with no top 1 pick and Westbrook was not such an obvious all star in the pre-draft either. I still like ORL's shot at something at or similar to OKC's level of lotto talent because we have it as our set strategy and our growing FO personnel are always these draft gurus from CHI, DET, SAS, OKC. We're loade up on draft experts and we already took #15 and #19 of this most recent draft. In the end, my total guess is I see about two top 1-5 lotto talents going to be all stars and a core of young players in every starter spot or main 1st-2nd backup who will be something reminiscent of the DET, DAL title teams, or a ramped up all good and all versatile DEN team but with lotto talent anchoring that surpasses that of Lawson and Gallo.
