Thoughts on Devin Ebanks Going Forward

Post#1 » by ennui » Sat Aug 11, 2012 7:15 am

I'm just curious as to what individual posters think of him; I hear a lot of differing opinions. Personally, I don't see much upside to him, in any aspect of NBA basketball, whether it be defense, shooting or playmaking.

What do you guys think about him backing up MWP? What if MWP gets injured, can Ebanks adequately spell him?

my judgment is probably blinded by his resemblance to Ariza that I hope he plays like him too.

I think he'll be ok based on how he played while Kobe was nursing his injury and when MWP was suspended. doesn't wow but is solid.

I think Ebanks was very serviceable and decent on defense. I like his work ethic and the fact he voices his opinion out in regards to his play time coming from a quiet guy like him shows me he has pride and ownership of his skills and bball accomplishments ( personal accomplishments he may set for himself). I always like to keep guys like that on a team.

The more I look at our revamped roster, the more I want to be able to have any contingency available; in lieu of increased risk of injury, due to age. We can't have another Karl Malone injury effectively neutering a super team. I understand that Ron is our least valuable starter(not the same as losing the any of the big 4, who are let's face it, damn near irreplaceable in terms of impact) but having to start Ebanks as opposed to let's say any average NBA SF, in case of injury, severely hampers any chance of winning a chip.

I see Devin bricking open shots, being lit up by other good to elite swingmen, while making many mental errors on account of his greenness and the bright lights of LA. On top of that, from what I've seen of him, he's average for his position athletically and even that is pushing it.

I mean, I've seen tons of D league players better than him.

Pretty sure that was his agent goading him into that. Speculation, obviously.

damn that '03-'04 season. :( that PF spot from that season is the SF spot right now.

honestly, I would've preferred Eyenga but I still hope Ebanks performs 100x better than what we saw from him last season.

It still haunts me. I'm sure Kobe feels the same way, which bodes well for our team's mentality coming into this season.

He has potential. All he needs is to work on that three ball and He will be our next Ariza.
I really do miss Ariza :(

Looks can be deceiving. Any passing resemblance to Ariza and subsequent attempts to paint him having a career trajectory similar to Ariza is just wishful thinking. He needs to work on a lot of things to be the next Ariza, such as defense(remember that 09 Nuggets series?), IQ, toughness, athleticism and offball awareness/proficiency.

Dude is so one dimensional, all he excels at(being generous) is spot up mid range shots, which others create for him. He is a liability.

He's.......ok, he really needs to work on his shooting, if he can start hitting 3's then he will be fine because its mainly his offense that bugs me even though I think his shot has improved from the season before. His defense isnt too bad, I prefer him guarding SGs because of the size advantage he has over them and I dont think he's strong enough to guard most SFs (that's what Metta is for) so yea i think he's worth keeping as a backup 2/3.

To be honest I dont think he's going to be anything but a bench warmer and may find his way into Europe soon. The dude was a late 2nd round pick for a reason. He does nothing exceptionally good and only hit a few good mid range shots when he played. Hardly anything to get excited about.

No idea why we resigned him and not Matt Barnes. For all the crap Barnes get on this board, he i still WAY WAY better than Ebanks. Dude sucks

He hasn't had much of a opportunity so far. Last year he was thrown into the starting role for a few games, then relegated to third string, then starting again to end the season during the MWP suspension.

Give him a chance to be the first SF off the bench, let him have a set role and know where his minutes are going to be coming from and I think we'll see a much better Ebanks on the court.

Still not signed

Needs a full time motor as there are games where hes into it and games where he disappears like Casper and doesn't impact D, O, or the glass

The addition of Jamison to the second unit gives guys like him life. If ask him to run through the paint, cutting posting up against shorter players he's a big-time player. Ask him to play with a bunch of other taller players in there and he's not the same. Earl Clark and Ebanks will have a very tough competition for that SF spot.

I agree.. im gonna miss Matt Barnes. 2 years ago he left a lucritive offer from Toronto, took less money & came to LA in hopes of a champioship, but that didnt. He hurt himself in the 1st year with us and when he came back, he wasnt 100% and even last season he didnt seem like he was there in the beginning. He did get a little rejuvinated when Sessions arrived. I remember the first few games when Sessions was coming off the bench, Barnes was feeding off of the uptempo style they were playing and had some good games. Just the 1st night with Sessions he had 17PTS.

I think were over rating Ebanks. Id rather have Barnes >>> Ebanks - Morris - Goudelock - Duhon.

Hope Mitch gives him atleast a 1 year deal, dude deserves it.

The problem is that Barnes blew it for us in the playoffs last year, and he got hurt again thus why the Lakers are not going to resign Barnes. So in short you are overrating Barnes.
