Spoke with a friend yesterday who actually had a few drinks with Henny downtown the other day. Henny said the big reason they really didn't want Bynum was his knees. This goes along with what Henny was quoted about saying that "they did their research" on Bynum and it wasn't the right move. So they obv weren't comfortable gambling on his knees.

Some people need to back away from the ledge .. The base of this trade sucks on paper but we gotta remember we dont have otis at the helm anymore we have Hennigan.. give this some time see what moves he makes with the pieces we have and pieces we received.. Otis made mistake after mistake after we had a championship caliber team lets see what Rob can do we cant judge a guy who has been on the job for only over a month.. good things take time so for now lets embrace what we have instead of being pissed off at Hennigan for not making the Houston trade noone knows what Houston really was offering or if they offered at all.. the deal is done time to move on and watch us build properly from ground up

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XLV
Once you realize that there was as much chance of Howard resigning with Houston as there was of him resigning with us and admit they would have to be (Please Use More Appropriate Word) to offer even half of what we assumed was on the table and start comparing the trade we got to REALISTIC options the trade does look much better. A realistic option was Brooks Lopez on a max deal, Kris Humphries on a 9 mil one year deal, three first round picks from a team that was going to be championship contenders for many years, we did far better than that. A realistic option was three of the young players from Houston, Lamb and Monteiunaz might be better than Harkless and Vucevic, but we'd still have Duhon Jrich and Clark. We did get screwed, no question about that, Dwight Howard completely destroyed any chance we had of getting fair value for him with his no asset team list but we really need to stop comparing the deal with got with the imaginary deals we all made up in our head. Just because it is a bad deal doesn't mean there was any chance of it being better, and in reality there was plenty of chance that it could have been much much worse.

Taking a second from my vacation to say I absolutely love this trade. Henny did a wonderful job. This team can compete even after gaining a lot of draft picks while putting us in a better salary cap spot. Plus, we're not done dealing. No Duhon or J-Rich opens things up. Harkless can be the next Paul George. As the team roster stands, Harrington and Hedo are ideal off the bench. Vucevic is a legit center with huge potential. Afflalo is a legitimate starter and is motivated to succeed. Bravo, Henny.
This is better than what Houston could've given us. Told you all Dwight would get dealt while I was in Greece. Also, don't burn your #12 jerseys. Idiotic idea. Let it go. Basketball karma carries a long way. Hopefully we bring back Ish. Can't wait to gobble up cheap/free Magic tickets this season. Going to be a fun team to watch.

Same here. This was not the trade i wanted, but it has all the elements of a good trade. Cap space+Picks+young Players. The problem is most wanted better young players and better picks. Specifically, Houstons young players and Houstons picks. What amazes me that very few analysts understands what the Magic are trying to do. I keep hearing talk that we should have gotten Pau, and Iggy or Bynum so we could be competitive. Former Raptors coach Sam Mitchell a few months ago was the only one who seemed to get it. He said the worst thing you can be in the NBA is average/mediocre. You should either be great, or horrible. Everything else is basketball purgatory.
Why should we build around a guy like Bynum who clearly has an attitude problem, has a history of knee problems and is about to get a max deal? Kobe, Pau and Bynum couldn't even make it back to the NBA finals. Why should we build around him as our best player? This talk of getting Pau and Iggy is about the dumbest suggestion i've heard. How the hell are Pau and Iggy going to beat Miami, Chicago, Boston, Nets, Knicks or even Indy? How can you get paid to analyze sports and even suggest that? Mediocrity? No thanks.
Finally. Please don't buy into the hate and ridicule being leveled against our team and administration. the Magic have made great hires. Peopel who come highly recpmmended by the NBA's best. The media's smear campaign is in full swing and #Weallwegot. Our only way to show them up is to rally as a franchise and have prolonged success going forward. I suspect that by the summer of training camp of 2014 we will be in the hunt for a top spot in the east. Keep the faith.
i agree with most of what you said. But I feel we should've taken Bynum or Pau or Iggy so that we could've flipped them for something else, even if it would've been salary dumping. An asset is an asset.

Was looking through the rosters of other teams trying to find a young backup PG and was wondering what you all thought of Reggie Jackson or Eric Maynor from OKC

Sorry, but I didn't ask if I was the only one. And if I did, I wouldn't be the only one so you fail again.
You aren't the only one. I have high hopes for Drew. I believe he will fall somewhere in between Al Jefferson and Chris Webber.

Left unsaid is the fact that Henny basically got us out of the Mess Otis caused us in almost one fell swoop sans Hedo....but Hedo's deal isn't as bad now but should he be cut? he's still damn near impossible to trade

Keep Hedo for one more year and then cut him when it costs 1/2 price

The greatest asset we wanted was flexibility. Getting a star would have stopped that from happening.
We have draft picks, young talent, some vets, a TPE of significance. We can make a number of moves. What we have to remember is though, we are wanting to be bad for the next two seasons while developing a core of young talent.
Out of all the moves we could have got, I realised getting a big name player like Bynum or Iggy was the worst of the lot.
Flexibility is what we wanted most, and it is what we got.

I guess I'm not understanding how a superstar would mess with our flexibility? We took on Harrington & Afflalo's contracts. Why, instead of them, couldn't it have been a superstar, that in turn we can move easier than Harrington or Afflalo, and possibly send off with one of our bad contracts for something more desirable to our long term goals?

lol delusion has set in. Anyways, thinking about it I would say the Magic have one more chance at building a team and having a superstar before they are either disbanded, kicked out of town, contracted, or all of the above.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XLV
just my thoughts....yes the trade is bad on paper and nothing like what we hoped for, but it is what it is and at least we can move on now.
Blaming Henny is unfair imo, as he was put into the worst situation ever. Just remember all the "better deals" were reported by "sources" and none of us know what was actually offered. In all actuality this could have been the best deal available, mainly because Dwight painted us into a corner (his list of teams, telling teams he wouldn't sign with them, not talking about his back injury, and his camp/agent leaking rumors).
Henny basically walked into the equivalent of playing poker as the short stack while the rest of the table knows one of your cards and in the ends still set us up for the FUTURE not the present
In the end we got:
-youth (Harkless in my opinion has massive upside and is someone we wanted to draft, and who knows about N.V.)
-picks (not good on paper but can play integral roles in future trades)
-a player who continually shows signs of improvement in Afllalo
- a great trading chip in Harrington (partially guaranteed contract)
-and got rid of two of our worst contracts (Turks will actually be valuable after this season)
-we now have flexibility that Otis' moves prevented us from having, which in the end kept us from getting the pieces to appease Dwight
and best of all..........................
NO MORE DUDU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has the protection been announced? I'm assuming it's lotto protected the first year and then the protection gets lower and lower until eventually unprotected. Who knows how these teams will be in these upcoming years? Maybe we end up with a lottery pick. Either way we will have multiple picks in multiple drafts and that gives a lot of flexibility on potential trading up, etc.

I'm thrilled to watch Vucevic. I think he's gonna surprise a lot of people. According to Philly fans, he's long, coordinated, athletic, high IQ, and a very good PASSER. Mid-range game is nyce too. He jut has to get tougher. I see him being our starting C from day 1.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XLV
You know what tells you how bad this deal was? Think about it, at first we essentially traded:
Dwight/Duhon/Clark for Bynum/Mcroberts/Eyenga/Future 1st
We got screwed in this trade already, but it was expected and something we had to deal with. We then sat there and tried to find someone who would take Bynum and I guess Philly was the best option:
Bynum/Richardson for Iguodala/Harkless/Vucevic/Future 1st
Okay now the trade is starting to get progressively worse. The Lakers would've never, ever made this trade. But we're not done. We don't want Iguodala, so we need to find a another team:
Iguodala for Afflalo/Harrington/Future 1st
LOL this is where it gets really bad. This is the best you could do for Iguodala? Are you **** kidding me? The Sixers would've laughed in their face if Denver offered that.
So we not only turned Dwight into garbage, we also turned Bynum and Iguodala into garbage. We progressively diminished the assets we could have had and took a joke of a return.
Affalo/Harrington/Harkless/Vucevic/Mcroberts/Eyenga/3 protected future picks
Wouldn't have been good enough to get Bynum from the Lakers, wouldn't have been good enough to even get Iguodala from the Sixers by himself!!! That deal is **** putrid, just look at it. If anything we could've held on to Bynum or Iggy ourselves and tried to maximize a return, you by at least getting an unprotected pick from someone. You know maybe a future prospect for Iggy? Not **** Affalo and Harrington and a garbage pick, you've got to be **** kidding me. An unprotected pick by itself would've been better than what we got from Denver and this is **** Iguodala we are talking about.
I have no doubt in my mind we got bent over in this deal and rival GMs are straight up laughing at us.
And all this is without going into the fact that we didn't clear contracts, we didn't get young future talent, and we didn't even get decent draft picks! Those are the three f'ing things Rob said he was going for and he got none!
Now we are hinging on trading Affalo and Harrington at some point to diminish the returns even more lol i'm sorry I'll stop now.
