Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XLV "Re-Building" Edition)

Post#181 » by MagicTownBaller » Sun Aug 12, 2012 12:06 am

Guys, please no arguing. We want to keep this thread friendly and keep going with the speculation.

@SpursFan4Life, I actually like the user name. I used to have one on other forums that was MagicFan4Life.

Anyways, we know the trade sucks. There really is no point in telling us something we already know. But, we see why this trade was made. Nobody realize that Howard and Dan Fegan completely handcuffed us with any trades that we tried to attempt. We could've had a way better deal if his agent hasn't been going around saying "He won't stay with that team, he's going to explore free agency." Also, we want to see how this method of building around the "draft" works out. We havent seen that in years. I mean, San Antonio and Oklahoma City did it pretty well and they're two of the best teams in the west. I'm sure Sam Presti was viewed in the same light as Hennigan years ago when he blew up the Sonics to rebuild around Durant. The only difference is, we dont have a "Durant/Duncan" yet.

I would love insightful posts from a Spurs fan here and I hope it could be you, but there is no reason to bash us for the trade that we know is not great at all. All the trade does is set us up to tank and get a high draft pick, that's what we wanted.

You're acting like there isn't a chance that you can get a bust via the draft. There are odds in everything.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions but IMO Jrue/Turner/Young/Bynum is a young core to be jealous of. Especially looking at our own roster and realizing our core is Affalo/Harkless/Nicholson/Vuvecic.

The Magic are definitely going to regret trading with LA and not getting Bynum back.

No I'm not. I am just saying with what Orlando currently has on the roster I want absolutely no part of Bynum. And personally I dont think too highly of Turner or Thad Young. Jrue will probably never be an All Star either. Drafting is a big risk, but I prefer to take my chances in the draft.

They didn't "get rid" of Bynum.

They pretty much checkmated us and waited the whole Dwightmare looking on, and swooped in and got Dwight.

You really think trading Bynum for the best center straight up is "getting rid" of him? They were obviously ready to go into the season with him.

If bynum is so great why didnt the lakers win the championship last year, you know the only year hes ever been healthy??

Past 2 years he was on a team with kobe, gasol and MWP and didnt even make the conference finals, yet hes gonna come here and team with BBD, JJ redick and jameer nelson and win it all??

SpursFan4Life is clearly a Magic fan who is sick of seeing all these Magic fans fighting with one another during these trying times....

He's trying to get us to come together by directing the hatred towards an imaginary Spurs troll.

I mean....let's be serious.

We all we got.

I don't get your logic. You say you don't want Bynum because you'd rather build through the draft. Okay that is your opinion and I accept that.

Yet you go on to say that you don't like three great young prospects in Turner, Young, and Jrue. I'm not really sure what you're expecting from the draft, but if you don't think of those three guys as core young pieces with upside then I think you're in for a rude awakening over the next three-five years during our drafting.

the trade wasn't meant to be a fan favorite it was meant for the future of the franchise, no one knows how this trade will turn out for at least 2-3 years,

Sorry my friend, but using the Bobcats as an example of smart personnel management is not going to persuade many.

DaveMustaine wrote:I love how people on here are trying to act like Bynum isn't worth the risk or a max contract. The idea of drafting, is to pray that you get a guy with Bynum's ability. Well, rather than taking a proven commodity, we took useless draft picks, that teams drafting from that same position in years past, will often just sell the picks. Horrendous trade and it has sucked the life out of our franchise.

I agree w u. We should be so lucky as to draft the second best center in the NBA and young. Bynum has a very good offensive game to the point some analyst were sayin he was better than Dwight. Im nit sayin he's vetter but only other center in conversation and like 35 years old. Also if we do draft a player of Bynum's caliber it will not be from one of the three picks we aquired in this trade. Also to the poster who thinks we will be better off than Philly in three years is nuts. They got young talent all over the place and had luxury of trading Iggy because they were stacked w wings. Adding Bynum will give them the talent now they just need the coach to keep them in check and play the right way and they should be top 4 in east for years. Turner finally played well last year and Jrue Holiday has impressed me as well. If in three years we have the kind of young athletic talent w the second best center in the league I will be very happy and content and will be stoked with job Henny did.

My plan wouldve seen us let Jameer walk trade for Bynum still suck. Granted we wont be as bad but in Bynum we would already have one star to build around in our rebuilding effort. Now we have no pieces to build a team around in a league where the best teams have three allstars we turned down an opprotunity to get one. I also dont belueve he wouldve walked after the season as we would have had his bird rights. Now our only hope fpr the next couple of years is to take top 3 in the lottery. If we dont get great picks w only our own picks as ones we aquired are garbage and if we dont nail our picks its ginna take some time. Even if we have cap room its hard to pitch our team if we have no star to pair them w unless we can pull off a t-mac & Hill combo that works. Our next season will all hang on the 30 minute draft lottery show in second rd of next years playoffs.

Bynum wasn't going win us a title, if he was so great why would the lakers even think of trading him, Now dont tell me the Lakers dont know how to win titles.

I can agree on Bynum not being here, but you're going way too far now.

Anytime you have the 2nd best of something and can get THE best of something by ONLY giving up the 2nd best thing and some loose junk in your closet - you gotta do it.

They had dozens of chances to move Bynum before - the only player they would have ever traded him for, well, they just got.

Durant seems more like a Duncan type of star... admirable attitude and doesn't need to be in the top two biggest markets to be happy. We should have known Dwight wanted to be in LA/NY early in his career. He has the same clown-like personality as Shaq.

dont know why so many people are fixated on a stud center, can anyone tell me the last time a dominate center lead his team to the championship? dont say Lakers and Bynum in 2009 and 2010, Bymnum was no where near a dominate center in those series

I never said Bynum wasn't a good center just said he is not as great as being made out to be, If Bynum was even close to Howard the Lakers dont make that trade and if we didn't win with Howard and this team, We wouldn't win with Bynum

That is exactly what we said a few years ago about the god fearing Dwight who had such high moral standards.
