Lakers bench?

I mean people still criticize our bench but the thing people dont see is, we wont bench all of our starting group and put bench on the field, if Brown can create a nice rotation 2 of the big 4 will always be on the court, so bench is really fine right now.

I think this will 5s will work great

Gasol-Jamison-Ebanks-Kobe-Blake and Howard-Hill-Ebanks-Meeks-Nash.

What do you guys think?

One luxury is that both gasol and howard can play 38 minutes per game, which means 10 minutes for jamison/hill to cover.

However, history has shown us that Gasol gets fatigued when playing that many minutes.

Our bench otherwise is not that good. In fact, even with the addition of jamison, we have a bottom 10 bench at best.

Meeks is OK, but a below average bench guard. Blake/Duhon are the worst reserve point guards. Ebanks and Clark are NBDL forward material.

I don't even want to mention the two young guards we drafted last year.

Hill is the only player that is considered "OK", but he's backing up our strongest position. Metta world peace should be a bench player as well.

Were going to be fine, a scoring 3 that is half decent on Defense would be nice but if not i still think we'll be ok.

the positives that nash brings in his 30 minutes of play is going to get canceled out with the negatives that blake/duhon will bring in the other 15-18 minutes.

Meeks will give up more points than his scoring.

Ebanks will average less points than the backup centers of the opposing teams.

Jamison and hill are good, but like I said, they are backing up our strongest positions... not necessary the best from a bench play perspective.

well.... jamison is better than murphy

mcroberts don't matter, because we had hill for the PO... so that position didn't change.

barnes is better than any sf we have on our roster besides MWP (who should be a bench player too)

kapono is not that much worse than jodie meeks.... i know kapono didn't do much... but meeks is no shannon brown.

blake is blake.

so in essence, we still have a bottom 10 bench

When you have a guy as talented as Jamison on the team, it would be a waste to force Gasol and Howard to play 38 minutes during the regular season. Have to think long term if you're trying to win a championship.

Great post for perspective. We got a bunch old guys we need rested for the POs and I'm sure as Laker fans you guys feel the same way as I do - which is chip or bust.

I said, can, not must. It's true that Jamison is talented, but I don't want to not have HC Advantage throughout the PO's. Without game 7 on our floor in 2010, the Celtics would have been your 2010 Champions.

Jamison isn't exactly a detriment to the team. He can still help them get home court advantage.

Thunder and the heat are all going to play their main guys 36+ minutes a game, and they will wrap up HC, unless we play our starters as long or get a better bench, especially the wings and the guards.

Right now, we have NBDL wings and backup guards

Heat went out and got Allen & Lewis. I think they're doing that to cut back on the minutes of their starters.

Lewis is washed up, will just take mike millers minutes. Allen is there to take mario chalmers minutes.

Bosh will average 36+ minutes, lebron at 38, dwade at 36. you can book that

They're all in their prime. We have major cogs who are in the twilight of their careers. Their minutes must be managed accordingly as to prevent injury/fatigue.

Dwight doesn't have an injury history, i will be mad as a fan if he doesn't average as minutes as kevin durant/lebron james, being that he's the third best player in the league.

Gasol never has a problem playing 36-38 minutes a game, and neither has kobe.

Nash is the only one that needs 30 or sub 30 minutes... but without him on the floor, expect blake/duhon to have a negative double digit +/-

Bosh is only really needed for 32 minutes. Haslem can handle the other 16 minutes at center.

We definitely have a solid bench, the highlights of our bench are:

Jamison who averaged 17/6 last season, can create his own shot & rebound
Hill who hustles his butt off, rebound & defends
Meeks a young 3 point threat & solid defender

Blake & Ebanks aren't all that great, but remember....our starting 5 is:

Nash
Kobe
Metta
Gasol
Howard
