I wish you could pick the channels you actually watch for say $8 each and just be done w/ it. Netflix is $8. Hulu is $8. HBOGO is awesome. I get HBO for $5 a month on a special promo I got locked into when I signed up. I hardly watch any TV except for AMC (Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Walking Dead) and of course Laker games.

The Lakers are basically the reason I pay for cable service. I don't want to pony up for league pass just to get the Laker games I use to get for free.

I love the concept of streaming games w/ ads. Seriously, w/ Apple Air Play Mirroring you can watch it on your TV and be done w/ all the monthly cable costs. The broadcasters can sell more ads or just have the same ads show up on the computer and get a larger audience. I doubt TimeWarner lets that happen though. They want that monthly service fee. I better get ready to part w/ some dollars for league pass. Ish.

Did KCAL lose the away games too?

uh yea kcal lost their games, that's old news. Time warner cable sportsnet has Lakers now and they better not :censored: up. Since we'll be paying now they better NOT think they can just do what fsn/kcal did and slap a new name on it. I BETTER see some attention to detail. New camera angels, graphics that blend into the game without disruption and good cameramen/producers that can tell when mwp is about to murk some guy and not have the camera focused on mike brown's potato head.

I have Direct TV. Most likely they'll either add it as part of the Sports pack or a certain TV package (probably Choice or above).

Here's a video of Jeanie talking about the channel.

Will I have to get Time Warner Cable to watch the Lakers?
While Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes, which will carry the Lakers games, will certainly be carried by Time Warner Cable, the company has also begun discussions for carriage with all satellite, cable and telco distributors in the Lakers’ territory, which includes all of Southern California, Nevada and Hawaii. That includes Dish Network, DirecTV, etc.

Are you in Southern California, Nevada, or Hawaii? because that's the locations it seems the Lakers have rights too. If you're up North, the Kings or Warriors probably will be only shown. There's always NBA League Pass tho, which I get every season regardless.

North Santa Barbara County. Definitely Laker territory, but there's been no word from my cable company about the new channel. I'm starting to worry

Give it some time. The Pre-season doesn't start until October and with the recent trade for Dwight Howard, there's no doubt that the Lakers channels will be high in demand across So Cal.

he is okay, i liked paul sunderland, who apparently joel myers threw under the bus and then stole his job...

but really truly i thought spiro was gonna to be the future and resurrect the simulcast...still cannot believe shortbus let him get away...

as to the op...the season is two months away, and i havent heard anything about which channel , etc...

the good news is that allegedly there will be like two channels dedicated to the lakers, old games etc, like the yes network for the yankees...

I actually liked Joel, it's too bad his surrounding Laker co host ( except Thompson) didn't get along with him. Spero side busted for his TV job, and the Lakers could've at least put him back on the radio side but went with Ireland aka Jimmy Neutron.....who sucks.

i hate ireland...such a dork...

I am currently living in Santa Cruz(school) and FSN didn't cover Lakers games
(only sorry ass Warriors :nonono: ) so I had to look for live streams. I mean i sure didn't get the best quality, but I would rather watch something than nothing. For those of you that cannot watch the game on TV, ill be more than happy to give you a link to a stream. Whenever we have a game thread ill post the link!

It will be on the new TWCSN channel, no longer on Kcal 9 or FSN.

I do something along these lines with international league pass (ILP) broadband. Last year I got the package for $130 I believe (prices depend on country of sign up). 3mbps streams of all games including playoffs with no blackouts. They keep raising the prices every year because I remember paying less than 100 the year before. Major caveat:

They do frequent IP checks meaning you need to use a proxy or VPN (fortunately I have access to a fast VPN for free) or you won't be able to connect to ILP or maintain a stream. Free proxies/vpns will not have enough bandwidth for 3mbps so you will probably have to pay for one. Prices range from $5-15+ a month depending on what locations you choose and packages/bulk subscriptions you pay for.

They used to only check IP upon connecting so paying for a proxy/vpn wasn't necessary. This definitely adds to the cost. I think USA league pass broadband is cheaper but there are a lot of blackouts if you don't use a proxy for locally broadcasted games (all laker games if you live in socal). NBA TV games and TNT games are also always blacked out no matter what and I don't think they include the playoffs. ILP is definitely the way to go. I haven't paid for cable in 4 years because I don't watch much TV at all. Everything I watch is coming from my media PC streamed or downloaded. But I must watch every laker game so league pass has been a godsend (Kcal wasn't enough!).
