Cavs sign Undrafted FA Michael Eric

Post#1 » by CLEbland » Fri Aug 10, 2012 6:44 pm

According to Alex Kennedy "Undrafted free agent Michael Eric has signed a multi-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to sources close to the situation."

Saw this guy play in person in first round of NCAA tournament... huge and pretty athletic. Can actually hit a few jumpers. Put up about 9 and 9 with 2 blocks in 25 minutes. Worthwhile risk IMO certainly higher upside than samuels, leuer, or kevin jones. Will really be interesting to see who makes our roster.

I'm suprised he got a multi year deal.

Irving, Gibson, Pargo, Waiters, Casspi, Miles, Walton, Harangody, Azabuike, Jones, Varajeo, Thompson, Zeller, Leuer, Samuels, and now Eric....and maybe Gee.

That would be 17 guys.

There's a handful that are certainly questionable to make the 15-man, but I have to think Eric is one of those. Hope there is a lot of unguarenteed money in that deal.

all right signing for a defensive minded big, but he is raw on the offensive side.

All of these undrafted FA's should basically get a 3 year deal at this point. What if Eric establishes himself as a rotational big in the next 2 years? Do you want another situation like the Bulls with Asik, where we have to contemplate matching 8M/year?

While we have the cap space, we should always be offering 3 years. Obviously the guaranteed portion should not be very significant.

Yes, rather take a three year 2-3 million risk than a three year 25 million risk later

I know you think you are funny, but I really don't see any resemblance in their games.

Or you can make an educated evaluation. Here I will help you:

Now please provide me with one mock draft where Michael Eric even sniffed the top 7-8 like Tristan did.

I'm still not seeing it. Sure Tristan tries to dunk everything near the basket. And Eric is a big man as well (so dunking goes without saying) However, that really seems to be the only link between the two. It will however be interesting to see what Tristans game looks like this year.

This has to be the dumbest post I've read on the Cavs board. Since when does draft spot factor in when comparing certain players style of play? When did I post that Michael Eric was a projected lottery pick? Draft spot has nothing to do with player comparisons. Kwame and Dwight were both drafted first, so are you saying their style and level of play resemble one another? Beyond stupid post. Try harder...

You shouldn't be, it was a terrible post and I called it out. Varejao and Noah play similarly, but Noah was a lotto pick and Varejao was a 2nd round pick, so does that mean I can't compare them?

Fart - your attempt to play the helpless victim in this thread is laughable. We all know your agenda of being a Tristan hater. Your cute attempt of comparing the two players was not a simple evaluation of talent, but yet another ignorant suggestion to devalue and discredit Thompson as a player to support your cause.

The Noah/Varejao and Dwight/Kwame comparisons are a joke. It took at least a few seasons for anyone to make an evaluation of their talents. However you somehow have this God given talent of evaluating players who one, has not stepped on an NBA floor, and the other played limited minutes in a shortened season.

Way to Avoid my question. When did I say Michael Eric was a lotto pick? Since when does draft position factor into style of play?

Here you go. I went ahead and put this in bold, a different color, and underlined. Try reading it again. Take your time and go real slow........say the words out loud if you get confused.

Again, the questions I asked were: Since when does draft spot factor in when comparing style of play? When did I say Eric was a lotto pick? That little sentence you underlined is not an answer to either of these questions. FFS
