Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - JDW's Pick
well, I thought that it was obvious that the rule was there, so only players who started their careers after the merger would be available. I suppose Fats just could have define it more precise - there wouldn't be any questions if it were "Players who made their pro debut after the NBA-ABA merger".

That's enough opinion for me, sorry JDW, but I agree I believe that's what Fats meant so Malone can't be drafted.
So we will take your T Mac pick. (Who was going to be my next pick!!)

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Lamar's Pick
With its third and fourth picks team Chris Mullin's Fade drafts Dennis Rodman and Chris Webber.

Now, I have three deadly defenders out on the perimeter with me drafting the 1990-91 Defensive Player of the Year - Dennis Rodman. I could find plenty of better seasons statistically from Dennis, yet I feel like that's not the point in picking out these specific seasons. The point is, in my opinion, the ability to choose between various stages of a player's career and to find the one that fits your team the best. I don't know if you guys are going to penalize me about it, but I don't consider picking the guy's greatest year on a team that got bounced in the first round that smart. I rather go with the Dennis Rodman who wasn't in the habit of camping underneath the basket for rebounds yet, who was still in a more agile small forward's body (rather than the PF he was with the Bulls) and who was arguably the best at guarding perimeter players at that point.
His stats were 8.2/12.5/0.8 stls/0.7 blks, but I think that this Rodman is much more valuable than the 9.8/18.7/0.8/0.9 next season. I hope that you agree with the point I made.
Oh and the category is All-NBA.

My other guy is C-Webby from the "Broadcaster" category. Now, I wouldn't have picked Webber if this were a franchise starting draft where we simulated numerous seasons and whatnot, the injuries and some of the wrong moves he made over his career would have been a red flag for me. But since it isn't so, I have to look for the healthiest best Webber I can find there. So I'll go with Chris the only time he made it to the first all-NBA team - 2000-01, a season in which he played 70 games.
The thought behind these picks were that I already have two ball dominating alpha dogs and that I can't have more guys like GP and Jordan.
So I added Dennis Rodman who practically doesn't care about points as long as he has someone to harass. And I add one more devastating perimeter defender. Now I only need a great defensive center and my starting five is all set.
As for Chris Webber, I have a guy that some may call a "choker", I'll just say that he doesn't exactly want to take the last shot, to take the opportunity to bring his team home during the last minutes of a game. So he doesn't have to worry about that on this team as he'll be the third option and will be able to just have fun - grab some rebounds and run those fast-breaks of his, catch some lobs from GP and he'll probably be mine first post offense option.

^ your small ball lineup would be ridiculous. Move everyone down a spot and backup PG comes in! Such a huge starting lineup if you can get a center.
Apparently it's at worst unallowable
Tell me, do you honestly believed that 9 guys just "forgot" Malone existed? Or forgot that he played in the ABA?
This game is so much fun though.

I looked at taking Moses instead of McHale with my last pick thinking of working the ABA/NBA angle too but it just can't be justified.

I was already decided on picking Moses Malone with my 2nd pick but then saw he was an invalid pick.

With the next pick A Different World selects 2001-02 Ben Wallace for the "Like Gana" category. This year was the first of his 4 defensive POY awards, and everybody knows you have to work your hardest your first year to get an award like that the dethrone the previous winners who get mentions based off reputation.

I think Moses was drafted in the 2nd round last year in the retro draft.

Olajuwon and Wallace side by side
Good luck driving into there

I took the more offensively gifted Hakeem, and paired him with Defensive POY Ben Wallace. I also updated my original Jason Kidd post a few days ago but forgot to notify anyone. I chose the 2002-2003 Ason Kidd.

"at worst questionable" means it may or may not be allowed, "at worst unallowable" is simply playing the word game, like "at worst 0 PPG" and at the same time a hindsight
And TBH,I for one missed out on Moses Malone because of the NBA/ABA loophole, and I believe anyone who didn't should have at least raised the question instead of being like "I knew it/I figured"
But anyway I got another question:
Are undrafted players "deep sleepers"?

sorry for not making this rule more clear. the player's rookie year has to be 1976-77, not just NBA. moses is not eligible.

the spirit of the category does not include undrafted players, only players who were draft in the 3rd round or later.

Psh, questionable calls don't get overturned.

TBH, like 4 other people knew better than that.

I was barely even aware that we had a third round before this contest. Trippy.
