Preseason Game 2: Browns at Pack

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Thu Aug 16, 2012 1:23 pm

The debut of the new video boards. From the JS:

When: 7 p.m. Thursday.

Where: Lambeau Field

Broadcast: TV - Channel 4. Radio - AM-620.

Injury report: Packers - WR Shaky Smithson (ankle), WR Diondre Borel (groin), RB Du'ane Bennett (knee), CB Davon House (shoulder), Brandon Saine (hamstring), FB Jon Hoese (hamstring), CB Sam Shields (elbow), RB James Starks (turf toe), LB Desmond Bishop (hamstring), LB Frank Zombo (hamstring), DE Johnny Jones (knee), OG Ray Dominguez (ankle), OT Derek Sherrod (leg), TE Andrew Quarless (knee), WR Greg Jennings (concussion) and TE Jermichael Finley (thigh) are out; RB John Kuhn (ankle) is doubtful. Browns - RB Trent Richardson (knee) and linebacker Chris Gocong (Achilles') are out; DE Frostee Rucker (knee), TE Ben Watson (undisclosed), LB D'Qwell Jackson (shoulder), WR Travis Benjamin (undisclosed), LB Scott Fujita (leg), CB Dimitri Patterson (ankle), DT Scott Paxson (knee) and FS Usama Young (hamstring) may not play.

FIVE THINGS TO WATCH
SECOND AND GOAL: This is backup quarterback Graham Harrell's second chance to impress the coaching staff, and it might be his best chance. He'll play most of the last three quarters, and after an uneven performance last week he really needs to move the offense.

NEXT ROOKIE UP: If there's a guy who really needs to play big - literally - it's second-round cornerback Casey Hayward. He'll start at right cornerback with House out and he'll go up against two 6-2 receivers in Greg Little and Mohamed Massaquoi. Little goes 220 pounds and the 5-11 Hayward is going to have his hands full.

RUNNING ON EMPTY: The Packers will go in with three healthy running backs and may use receiver Curenski Gilleylen a bit if necessary. Alex Green will get his longest stint with Starks out. Rookie Marc Tyler looked good last week, but he needs to make amends for his late fumble.

MARSHALL LAW: With only a couple of days of practice following a long absence due to a concussion, left tackle Marshall Newhouse will start and look to get back on track. The No. 1 offense will probably only play a quarter, but it's possible Newhouse could get more work than that.

LINE THEM UP: This will be a big game for rookie defensive linemen Jerel Worthy and Mike Daniels. Worthy did very little in his first game and Daniels is coming back from knee and groin injuries. This will be the first look at the two of them in the nickel together.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Borel and Shields need to play, missing another game isn't good for either. Hopefully by next week, when the starters play into the second half, we have most of our key guys back.

Yesterday, the President of my company gave me 4, $72 face value tickets in the 40th row for tonight's game - I proceeded to invite my gf and my good friend and his wife. Then this morning I get an e-mail from him saying he needs the tickets back b/c one of our business partners got back to him late and are now interested in going. He said he would take me out for a drink to make up for it - yaaaaa cause 1 f'ing drink makes up for a fun night including $300 worth of Packers tix and showing my girl and my good friend and his wife a great time ON ME! Seriously WTF - bunch of Indian Givers! I thought that move was extremely shady and unprofessional!! We'll see how productive I am at work today!! FTW!

You should have told your boss that you already gave the tickets away.

I was hoping Dominguez would take some steps forward and look like a potentially solid backup OG this preseason, but things aren't looking good.

I'm sure Holmgren will be wearing his Super Bowl ring. He wore it last year, plus he was just inducted into the Packers hall of fame.

I thought about that but I really didn't want to make that long drive for a damn preseason game. It would have been fun though damnit!!

Excited to see if Benson gets any work. I think he can be what Najeh was for us a few years ago, minus the defecating.

For real though, that injury list makes me wanna throw up.

Eh, other than Bishop, House, and Sherrod I don't mind who's on the list. I don't want Jennings, Finley, Starks (to an extent), and those guys playing anyways. Shields I would have liked to see get some work so we can judge. Borel/Gurley it would be nice to see but I'll still fall asleep tonight knowing that they are unlikely to play.

I have to think that it is really unlikely that they will throw someone with so little training camp and 1 padded practice day into a preseason game.

Hopefully Daniels and Worthy show something this week. Perry looked good last week, and I hope that continues.

From what I understand the CBA says a players first two practices cannot be in pads/no contact. Benson practiced that way Monday/Tuesday. There was no practice yesterday. I'd say it's highly unlikely he plays tonight.

Me to. The starting OL should be pretty solid, but the backup depth looks shaky at best.

Such as?

Is there really anyone out there who's going to step in and be better than Harrell?

Why do you feel Harrell will suck?
IF we are ever in the market for a QB - which i doubt - tavaris jackson is avilable.
