We might not have to give up this years pick and if we do we can protect it. The magic love those kind of picks

Orlando Magic Willing To Absorb Deals For Picks (Rip?)

Unless you think well be Top-5 bad, why do we need to keep next years pick? 2013 projects to be an awful draft.

If they want to avoid tax and Rips 1M guarantee next season, they could very well have to part with this years pick or the Bobcats pick to do it..

I doubt they'd take Rip, we'd probably only be willing to give up a 2nd round pick and they already have Affalo and Reddick.

Put simply, cheap talent. We've been pretty good at drafting outside of the lottery. With our financial constraints - we need all the cheap talent we can get.

Using the Bobcats pick to dump Rip would be a bad move.

EDIT: Not saying I agree or disagree, just stating why one would want to keep the pick.
14 years is a nice run but it's time to end the Paxson era.

If we're getting rid of Rip to sign McGrady, we're likely taking another step back this season. Now it's even a higher chance we land a #10 to #18 Pick.

Even with a weak draft, you can deal that pick for something nice or for a future pick.

By the way, who told you this draft was going to be very weak again? You mentioned a name before.

They'll likely be exploring trades for both of those guys this year.

One of the few things the Bulls could do this year that would make me tune out and not even get league pass would be to salary dump one of their better players who is on a short, flexible contract. If they burn a pick to do it, I'll likely tune out for sure.

Bulls seem to be using their "major market" status to sign guys for cheap. Average/Washed up players they think can fill this roster. Paying Rip $5m a year is ridiculous to them now when they can sign McGrady who can almost produce the same numbers at $855k.

Getting rid of our 1st round pick this year just to move Rip Hamilton is borderline stupidity.

Because realistically, SG looks like this:
Marco (26) / Kirk ( 12) / Butler ( 10)

That, to be sure.

Also, if we ever expect this team to consider paying the tax, avoiding the 4-of-5 year penalty is essential. And with the Rose injury, there is no reason whatsoever to use 2012-2013 toward one of those years. None.

Nobody told me, I've looked and thought of the people who will be/could be in this draft and it's not good at all. I did mention to you though that Chad Ford talked to a prominent NBA scout who said 2013's draft has the potential to be worse than 2000, and I agree.

I agree. I'm not saying get rid of the pick, just saying why do we need it? If they give it up to dump Rip and save a million and get under the luxury tax, can't say I blame them.

Marco playing 26 minutes a game with that defense? I don't think so. Jimmy Butler I could see playing starter minutes though. I have doubts Marco is going to fit. I won't be shocked if we use the MMLE for example of a guy like JJ Redick next year to replace Marco.

That was exactly what I thought after reading the OP.

On the other hand, screw it-- let management/ownership pay for Boozer's deal via the amnesty when the time comes. When Rose comes back, Boozer would help us more than Rip would.

the problem isn't rips contract its boozer. Are they just gonna let taj walk b/c they can't afford him? His qualifying offer is only 2.2 I'm pretty sure someone's gonna end up paying him a good chunk of change.

When Drose and Rip were playing together this season, our offense was a top 5 offense in the league. Why are people so eager to get rid of Rip?
