Eddie Jordan, Bernie Bickerstaff set to join Mike Brown

Post#1 » by iamworthy » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:18 pm

It hasn’t exactly been a secret around the NBA that Lakers head coach Mike Brown has been courting Eddie Jordan to join his staff as an assistant coach. The official hiring of Jordan, who played for the Lakers in 1980-83 and ’84, is expected to occur in the coming days — and Brown will be hiring longtime NBA sage Bernie Bickerstaff, too.

Bickerstaff, 68, gave Brown his first NBA job as a Denver Nuggets intern when Bickerstaff was the general manager of the team. He was most recently an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers the past two seasons but has been a head coach in Seattle, Denver, Washington and Charlotte.

Jordan, 57, will bring unique offensive expertise with comprehensive knowledge of the Princeton offense. The revamped Lakers with Steve Nash and Dwight Howard will be naturally potent via pick-and-roll action, but Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol would be natural fits for the Princeton sets that are somewhat similar to Phil Jackson’s read-and-react triangle offense.

Well, the more coaches with that kind of experience that join the staff, the better. Even with our loaded roster I have little to no confidence in Mike Brown, so i'm glad to see other guys with head coaching experience filling out the staff.

Bickerstaff was a bit of a surprise for me. I thought we had Clifford and Jordan. But more HC experience the better!

well Weekend at Bernie's and Jordan >>>>Ettore "whata hellama doin here?" and Snyder
plus that gives us two viable interim coaches to fill the void after Mr Potato Head subs Odom for Kobe 15 games in a row.

I remember a time we were riding Jimmy because we just had not seen him work his magic. Over time he showed us we should trust him, I want to give Brown the same benefit of doubt!

The more ex head coaches the better..i guess!

The heat is on is all i can say and i wish him the best and going into this season i'm gonna be Browns biggest fan!

He's our coach and we may as well get behind him and give him his first chance to see what he can do!

Still not 100% sure what Bernie brings to the table, but I guess its a bit of everything + experience.
It seems the article is talking more about what Eddie Jordan brings which still isn't signed yet.

well, its not a bad thing, thats for sure. hiring more help on staff is a great way to do it. I remember bird for a few years was doin no coachin at all, but had "forgothisname" to help him run the offense. I believe this should have similar impact. I hope it works, cause we need more offensive cohesiveness, we looked like we were standing alot last year.

I love the fact that Mike Brown knows he's a terrible offensive coach, I couldn't imagine watching an entire season of whatever he would have come up with by himself....

I wonder if there is a limit to how many coaches a team can have and also how many coaches can be on the bench.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Bickerstaff head coach of late 90s bullets/wizard. Never liked him but im interested in what role he'll have in LA.

Eddie Jordan is a nice pick up imo. Im sure Jamison is pleased with working with his old coach again.
