Not huge news, certainly by our standards for the past week or so, but still interesting none the less.

That Parker is not moving back to Europe means he sees his future in basketball management.

With all the doom and gloom I think the new management is making some good investments. I'm looking forward to what happens to this team down the line.

Scout Parker is older than GM Hennigan, and both are younger than me. :(

Wow, I didn't know you were THAT old!

Seems to me like he actually got hired because he has some experience in Europe.

Good point. With Dave Twardzik out, Orlando needs Y'urp presence.

Euro scouting? Should have given me a call ... I'd have done it A LOT cheaper.

If indeed his role will be international scouting, I'm very intrigued. In Canada and the US, Parker's career was overshadowed by his sister's and his teammates (2 of them being in Miami now), but he was a legitimate superstar in Europe. Not only will international players compete to impress him, but they can also reach out to him for guidance regarding the differences between Euroleague and NBA. If he nets the Magic a good pick that becomes a rotation player, he would be doing a great job. If he prevents another Fran situation by being able to assess first hand how a player feels about coming to America, he's done HIS job.

Name recognition overseas can go a long way. This hire is like a less warped version of Dirk Nowitzki becoming a US scout for a German Handball team.

Parker was a 2 time Euroleague MVP and could have been something special in the NBA, no idea why nobody gave him a shot in the NBA until he was past his prime.
Hes a smart guy so Im sure its gonna be a good signing.

It was widely reported at the time that Parker chose to play in Europe because he was much, much more highly paid than what would have been available in the States. On cannot fell sorry for anyone here.

Anyone else surprised at how much attention Magic front office moves are getting? I can't recall ever reading about when scouts are being hired and we've seen the ECU Coach (who eventually turned it down) and now Parker being talked about in the media. Maybe it's because Hennigan is so young and the media is interested to see how he turns out following the Dwight saga?

Strange. But good to see that the Houston GM and the ECU Coach both have high praise for the way Hennigan has handled their discussions and the decisions they've made.

I dont think it was the case, he wasnt impressive in his first two years, mostly due to injuries and than he went to maccabi.

Anthony Parker was here during part of the 1999-2000 season.

He had a great summer league that year and then was traded here in The Billy Owens deal.

The Magic were going to cut him until assistant Tom Sterner and Eric Musselman burst into the room and urged management not too.

He stayed on the roster until around The Trading Deadline and was give his release.

He then went on to become a star in Europe.

The guy is going to be valuable especially when it comes to International Scouting and The Magic will be drafting some guys from overseas with lower picks from other teams in the first round or second round picks.

Seems like Henny is going for a lot of unproven, just-give-me-a-shot kind of guys. Who knows, maybe he's trying to nab them before they turn into something, or perhaps he doesn't really have the ties/contacts built up to recruit experienced staff? Very interesting to watch and I'm generally satisfied with the staff picks so far :)

I'll reserve judgement.

I myself am pretty excited about a young team, with young executives and a bright future with new direction. I'm anticipating the future much more than I was during the past two Dwight infested seasons.

I for one hope that Henny knows what is he doing here. We're obviously building through draft and decision on scouts is make or break.

I'm actually surprised the guy retired. He still could have come off someone's bench for the vet min, and fill in a role similar to what Pietrus did for Boston this past year.
