TORONTO - Blue Jays manager John Farrell made it clear that he has no plans to leave Toronto any time soon.

Farrell was asked on Friday about returning to the Boston Red Sox to replace embattled manager Bobby Valentine.

"I'm under contract here," said Farrell.

When pressed on if he'd heard the rumours Farrell added: "That's the operative word: speculation. I'm not going to comment on speculation and conjecture."

Farrell had been the pitching coach for the Red Sox from 2006 to 2010, including a World Series win in 2007. He left Boston to become the Blue Jays manager in October 2010.

Valentine has come under fire as of late, with players reportedly meeting with the Red Sox's owners to voice their frustration with his tenure as Boston's manager.

Yeah, he can go to Boston for all i care! He pretty much proves why teams don't hire many pitching coaches to manage, ha

I'd like to see Sally Fasano and his stache become our next bench boss, tbh!

The funny thing about Gibbons was the only thing as a manager he couldn't do was keep control of the clubhouse ('sinking ship', hillenbrand, lilly, big hurt, etc), which is also the only area in which Farrell seems to excel.

That being said, Farrell stinks in so many other ways. I'd love to see him go to Boston.

Huh? In light of the dramatic turnaround in hitting (and winning) that occurred after Cito and Tenace came in to reintroduce the "art" of free-swinging? Would Bautista have happened if Gibbons continued? I liked Moneyball as much as the next guy, but +OBP hitters are born - and traded for - not made.

Also, I just didn't like Gibbons' public persona. He didn't seem to garner respect. I thought of him as the Babcock of baseball managers.

I agree. I don't see anything of consequence to his "managering" of the team. He seems to have a good hold on the player's egos, but I don't know what is worse.... His half-assed over-managing or Cito's half-assed under-managing!

I would give Wakamatsu one year at the helm, he had one pretty good year in Seattle, and I think the player's respect him. I don't think he is Farrell's guy anyway, but was put in by AA as a proven manager to watch the rookie last year.

I would keep Murphy, but Walton's time should be up. I think the organization wants to put Hentgen in there soon anyway. I think it was issues between him and Farrell that lead to him quitting as BP coach last winter, but the fact he stuck around the organization shows they plan to reinsert him at some point like they did Cito.

That's a crying shame.

This fanbase is pretty ambivalent right now but if Farell ever goes to the Sox its going be months of bitching and moaning about how Rogers never spends and how big brother stole our toy again.

butterfield isnt the answer. there's a reason why he's been passed over 3 times for the position. farrell did not have an identity. at times he'd immitate joe madden with the shifts and small ball. but at the same time when your employing dwayne murphy with his hack first approach, you have conflicting methods.

i'd like to see dave martinez take over the team. joe maddens right hand man and former jay.

What dramatic turnaround? In every season that Gibbons managed outside of Tosca's 2004 (which was incredibly injury plagued...somewhat like this season), the Jays scored significantly more than they allowed and finished around or slightly above .500. It didn't really get any better (or worse) after that with Cito in that regard. I hardly see what Bautista has to do with anything, considering we're not talking about Cito and Murphy's abilities as hitting coaches and his acquisition wasn't until Gibbons was already gone.

Also, I just didn't like Gibbons' public persona. He didn't seem to garner respect. I thought of him as the Babcock of baseball managers.

Can't say I care much bout his public persona or how he upset complainers like Shea Hillenbrand (though it's not like he was the cause of a "player mutiny" like Cito was), I cared about his ability to manage baseball games/construct lineups intelligently and using common sense.
