Final 2 roster spots?

Post#1 » by Riled Up » Fri Aug 17, 2012 5:45 pm

With Justin Hamilton going to Europe it seems like things are a little more defined in terms of what our final 2 roster moves will be. I would guess that it would be to sign a wing player and a big man, more specfically a veteran big man if we are going to keep Dexter Pittman as our young project. My guess:

Terrel Harris
Darko Milicic

Anybody else have a thought on who the final 2 roster spots will go to.

Eddie Curry and Hassan Whiteside
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

I am guessing that Pat will try to match up with the Lakers now that they have Howard so it would not surprise me if the final two spots go to Centers hoping that out of the bunch one can step up and be a solid contributor. Darko makes sense for one of the spots. If they don't find a second Big they like, Terrel Harris will probably be back.

Not really Pat's style to show concern for another team's moves. I know we carried 5 centers in 2011, but we already have 3 (4 if you count UD), not sure I see us using both spots on centers now that it goes away from our game.

Im hoping we bring in one veteran big maybe Curry or Darko. We are currently overstacked at the 2 and 3 position, we have 6 players who can play both the 3 and 4 position. Thats not counting Rashard Lewis who as well can play the 3 spot. Pat Riley like Harris and wants him on the roster. I think Riley will try and make a trade during the preseason by moving one of our swing players for a veteran big who can run in our system. Dont be surprise if Shane Battier is traded.

Any center we bring in at this point is going to flat out suck and get dominated by Howard. We should just play our own style instead of playing into the Lakers' hand.

Curry? Are you serious? What is he going to do? Awful fit for this roster, even if he could still play basketball.

No center we trade Battier (and pieces) for will net us a center we could use. At least, its highly unlikely. Maybe if Chalmers or Cole look great early and we're willing to move one of them + Philly's 1st for a big, but it'd have to be someone clearly impacting for me to be behind it.

Can someone please present a valid argument for Eddy Curry? You guys are blowing my mind. The Heat just kept him around last year to be nice after a certain point. He even gained back some of the weight he lost because he was disappointed and realized he wasn't going to play no matter what. He can't play basketball anymore. He's an awful fit for our system, and any system in the league. He can no longer come close to making up on offense for what he gives up on defense and the boards. All he was going to be for us was a post scorer who was a liability everywhere else. Dexter Pittman is a better version of that. Why have a worse version of Dexter Pittman, with no upside? By the end of last season we realized we don't need a post-scoring center.

I'm continually amazed at how people keep mentioning Curry as if there's some actual value in bringing him back... even as a perennial sportcoat wearer.

Curry played like 5 minutes last season. He was probably our least useful player, even other teams haven't considered him from what I know.

I'm not getting the support for him. Is it for the lulz that would be had if he wins another ring? :dontknow: That would be pretty funny.

Curry, Milicic, Blatche, does none of you wonder why, despite their talent, those guys have never stuck with a team for a longer period of time and been successful with it? Curry and Chandler are the two prime examples of how careers can turn out right and wrong. Both were two young and talented bigs who started out with the same team and had some pretty good years with them. After their respective stints with Chicago, where Curry was probably even more successful, they went on to new teams (Chandler to New Orleans, Curry to New York) and continued their success with those squads. After that, both had a career drop-off due to injuries. But whereas Chandler never completely fell off the map and bounced back, Curry completely fell off the map.

Often times, it's just a matter of attitude and self-discipline. Curry was in a perfect situation with us, with little to no pressure, yet couldn't even play himself into a rotation of Joel Anthony and Dexter Pittman, whereas Chandler justified his big contract in New York.

Some guys will never learn it and thus never be successful on a consistent basis. I'd rather give the likes of Whiteside a shot than wasting a roster spot on players who have never shown the right attitude or discipline to succeed in the NBA.
